Kris' Corner - Spring is in the air

Spring Is In The Air!

All I need is a few sunny days in a row and my whole mood changes.  The flowers are popping open and people are starting to mow their lawns again.  My husband and I are trying to clean out all the winter yuck in our yard to show off the sweet flowers starting to poke their heads out of the ground.  I know that this sunny stretch is probably a tease and we have more storms ahead before summer, but I will take it.

Here are a few spring pattern ideas to prolong the sunny spring mood.  Notice how all of the pattern names begin with the word “Spring”!

Look at these amazing socks!  The blue sky, white clouds and bright flowers among the green grass and mountains is so cute.  The pattern is called “Spring(The Valley Comes Alive) by Oakwood Knits.  It is $6 on Ravelry but all 4 season patterns are available for $15. The socks are knit from cuff down.  Although the sock is mainly 2-color stranded colorwork, there are a couple of areas of 3-color stranded work but you can always skip one color and go back and duplicate stitch at the end, if you would prefer.  Heritage would be a great choice of yarn for this project.

Next up is “Spring Blossom Sweater Scarf” by Anastasia R. Smith.  I confess I was hooked when I saw this shrug on Ravelry in bright purple yarn, my favorite color.  This shrug/bolero is crocheted and is stunning with its open weave lace work and ribbed sleeves.  It drapes beautifully while keeping you snug.  It can also be worn loosely off your shoulders without using the sleeves.  The pattern is $8 on Ravelry and can be crocheted in any weight yarn.  A good yarn for this would be anything by Malabrigo!!

Last up is a sweater called, “Spring is Coming” by Annalisa Filippi.  This time I was hooked because it features my favorite flower, tulips.  This sport weight sweater is so cute with the tulips along the yolk.  It is worked seamlessly from the top down.  A Little Knitty recently got in some new colors of United sport weight yarn by Queensland that would work well for this sweater.  Hilde and I both made the Ostinato sweater by Laura Aylor with United and we both love the lightweight feel and drape of this yarn.  This is a perfect spring weight yarn!!!  The pattern is approximately $6.65 on Ravelry.

Happy Spring!

Karen Chemo Cap 5th Anniversary Makeover

I had someone ask me about the Karen Chemo Cap Fan Stitch and I decided the video and pattern were both in need of a make-over! Especially when I noticed this year is the 5th anniversary of publishing this pattern. When my mom had chemo I made her a few different hats because honestly it felt like the only thing I could do. I designed this one just for her, and was super excited when it was her favorite! After she passed I wasn't sure I wanted to release the design, but with a little time...it felt like the right thing to do! You can download the pattern for free here (please give it a favorite over on Ravelry so that it gets a little Ravelry love!!!):  Ravelry: Karen Chemo Cap pattern by A Little Knitty Designs You can purchase the yarn we used here:  Cumulus by Juniper Moon Farm (alittleknitty.com) Here is the video if you need help with the fan stitch!

Chemo Caps - Part 2

The Gia Chemo Cap doesn't have the same sort of story behind it as the Karen Cap , but it was developed with Chemo patients in mind! Please share this pattern with anyone who would like to knit a hat for someone in need! You can download your pattern here: http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/gia-chemo-cap

This eliminates the purl stitches looking a little funky (if you know, you know).  We decreased by 25% of the stitches about halfway through the cowl to allow the top of the cowl to be a little closer to the neck and the bottom spread over your shoulders if you want to wear it that way! We gave you little check boxes to check off as you complete repeats. **PATTERN** Using Main Color, CO92, place stitch marker and join in the round Round 1: (K2, P2) Repeat parentheses all the way around Repeat Round 1 six more times       ⃞          ⃞...
