The PNW Community Coral Reef Project

The PNW Community Coral Reef Project will be at A Little Knitty from 11:00am to 4 p.m. on Sat July 16.   Fiber artists from around the world are coming together to create corals and creatures for this room-sized art installation.  Please join us for a day of crafting healthy corals, bleached corals, marine creatures and pieces that emphasize pollution and abandoned nets in our oceans.  Free patterns and inspiration!  This will be a traveling exhibit starting with our first installation in Lincoln City, Oregon, in September 2023.  Please visit  https://www.coralknitfiberarts.com/community-coral-reef-project  for more information.

Books!

Before Covid, I rarely received requests for books. But over the last year or so, I'm getting the request more often...plus there are more and more AWESOME publications coming out. This means I bought books!!!! We will continue bringing in Pompom mag and some of their publications, but we have added a few new titles to our offerings. If there is a book you are dying to get your hands on, just let us know!! You can find ALL of these books in-store or online HERE

How does this work? Yarn Substitution

We all deal with it. We fall in love with a pattern. EVERYTHING about the pattern.  The yarn.  The drape.  The color.  It's exactly what you have dreamed of.  So, you hike on down to the yarn store...just to discover that yarn is discontinued or not offered at that store. It is defeating, we know!!! Sometimes the switch out is super easy...you need Red Heart Supersaver? Uptown Worsted will sub in perfectly! You need Cascade 220? Deluxe Worsted...step on up!!! But other times, the yarn is very specific. It's a blend of Cotton, Silk, Yak and Unicorn Kisses, with a chainette ply and is super lofty. This is where it gets hard! Because it might have the yardage of a fingering weight yarn, but the floofy-ness (ya, that's a word) of a DK weight. Therefore, it's categorized as a DK. HOWEVER, if you sub in a very stout DK weight yarn, it might resemble a cardboard box more than a sweater! This is where gauge swatching is VERY important. Sometimes this process can be very frustra

Slow Yarn Crawl is coming!!

The Slow Yarn Crawl is starting May 27th!! You can find ALL the information about the crawl at their website:  http://www.slowcrawl.com/ For our shop, you can shop in-person or online! If you order online, make sure to put in the notes that you are slow yarn crawling!!! For 2022 we are offering a knit pattern called... On Pins & Needles Pindant And a crochet pattern called... Pin it to me Pindant We love to collect pins as we slow crawl…but don’t always have the best way to display them. Sometimes they pop off my bag or grab my yarn when they adorn my bag. So we came up with this knit pin-dant (a pendant for pins!!) so that you can display your beautiful pins in your craft room/nook/closet/etc. Both of the patterns use Malabrigo Worsted, but you can use any worsted weight yarn (we just LOVE the way Malabrigo felts) You need 2 skeins for the knit pattern and 1 skein plus a tiny bit of fingering weight yarn (you probably have some laying around) for the crochet pattern! You can find

New Yarn - Offbeat

To say I am smitten with this new yarn from Universal Yarn would be a HUGE understatement. It is soft as can be, lovely colors, and VERY cost friendly....these are 3 of my favorite things!!!! When I met this yarn (along with a few new yarns trickling into the shop) I knew we needed one in every color!  I immediately crochet up a sample with the Tubular colorway... I used the Nectar Shawl pattern from ravelry, but only used 1 ball of the yarn (technically the pattern called for 1410 yards...but I knew the 586 yards in Offbeat would make the shawl size that I wanted) You can find this yarn in-store or online HERE . And did I mention it's only $12 a ball??!?!! Grab a few and crank out some adorable holiday gifts! This yarn would also be great for baby blankets and easy care!!

Light + Long DK

This yarn was love at first touch! I met this yarn a few weeks ago at a little LYS get together in Seattle. A few of the bigger yarn companies/distributors came together at a hotel in Seattle to show off the latest and greatest from their lines. And this slow/subtle color change along with tweed and the insane softness captured my heart immediately. This wool-free yarn makes beautiful sweaters & shawls. I knit up the Fresh Berries top by Universal Yarn. It was a quick and easy knit that would be perfect for a first sweater (just remember to swatch!!!) You can find ALL the colors of this yarn in-store (we are waiting for the professional photos of the 16 colorways...when they are received we will list this yarn online!)

How Does This Work? Interchangable Tips Key

With the busy-ness of the yarn crawl, I totally forgot to continue with my "How Does This Work" Series! So here is another one for you! Around 20 years ago, I purchased my first pair of interchangeable knitting needles. I still remember them. Clear, plastic and a pretty large gauge (I wanna say a US10). I was so excited to give them a try, but after my first use I wanted to chuck them in the garbage. They must have been broken or something...maybe that is why they were in the clearance section? I went back to the yarn shop to ask about them...and walked away with some very important knowledge... That little curly piece of metal that came with my interchangeable needle, wasn't just an extra piece of junk...it was the KEY to getting my needle tips to stay on the cord!!! I was instructed to do use this key every time, instead of just using my fingers to tighten the tip. This ended my frustration with interchangeables. Sure, there is the occasional tip that would still come l

The details: 100 grams, 164 yards, 96% Israeli Mako Cotton, 6% Nylon I knit up a new pattern to show how far one ball will go!   The pattern is complimentary with the purchase of this yarn! These are great for socks (of course) but they are also awesome for shawls!!! Kids Klub

In June we will be rebooting Kids Klub. I have tried this at a few different times and could never get the right mix of perfect time for parents and perfect time for me....but I think we finally found it!!!! Kids Klub is a group for ten to 18 year olds who get together and knit/crochet. A teacher is available to help with whatever project they are working on, or as a group they can choose to make the same thing. All levels (even BRAND NEW) are welcome! This group is by appointment only, no drop in available. It will be MOST Wednesdays from 4:30 to 5:30. I say most, because there will be some Wednesdays where I am not available due to travel or yarn related craziness!  You can view the schedule HERE Each session is $15. If you schedule 4 sessions at one time, you will receive a $10 shopping credit on your account!
