Meet the Fat Fibers

October 5th to 9th we are hosting Fat Fibers Week. We are putting 16 "fat" fibers up against each other to see who reigns supreme. Pick your favorite and vote daily!!! 1. Yarnalia Fluffy is spun to be delightfully soft & squishy yet well-wearing and resilient, making it the perfect option for knit or crochet blankets, sweaters, scarves, and more! Made of 70% Acrylic and 30% Superwash Merino wool and weighing in at 100g and 109 yards! Have no fear when washing Fluffy as it’s machine washable! 2. Universal Bella Chenille  is a fuzzy dream, great for next-to-the-skin projects for little ones. Bella 100g/131 yds I 100% polyester I 6 - super bulky 3. Malabrigo Nube - Not a yarn, but it is a fat fiber that can be turned into yarn...so it made the cut! It is truly a joy to spin, full of fluff and loft and unmatched softness! Of course, you can also knit with the roving itself for a uniquely fluffy effect, or use it for thrums or needle-felting. Nube weighs in at 113g and on...

Kris' Corner - Hello from Ireland

Dia Duit From Ireland By the time you read this article, I will be on another adventure with my husband. This time we are in Ireland celebrating the addition of a new daughter-in-law. Our oldest son and his new bride will be joining us from their home in Santiago, Chile! In case you are wondering, “Dia Duit” is Irish for “Hello” or “Good Day”. Since I’m in this beautiful country, full of lots of sheep and great fiber, I think it’s only appropriate for me to write about some Irish-themed patterns. The first one is “Donegal Cabled Kate Hat” by Edel Machride . I loved it so much I’m actually knitting it on the trip! It has two plaited cables bordered with a seed stitch that the Irish call “moss” stitch. It is worked lengthwise and then sewn together. Although it calls for aran weight yarn which is what, in the US, we call worsted weight yarn, I’m actually using a DK called  Kathmandu DK 100 by Queensland Collection . I love the color “pear” I picked out, with its tweedy Irish lo...

Hilde's Corner

Fall is my very favorite season. Cooler temps, but the sun is still out. A few flowers are still in bloom, and the leaves are starting to turn. What’s not to love? I’ll tell you what’s not to love - cold season! There is nothing quite so jarring as being reminded that cold season is upon us as well! My husband and I were cruelly reminded of this as soon as we turned the calendar to September, and we both got sick. It has, however, made me think of projects we could make to ease our inevitable suffering when cold or flu does hit. First up, who doesn’t love to snuggle up in a blanket when you are sick? What about this very snuggly blanket appropriately named Snuggle Cables Blanket by Yarn Sonata . It seems super snuggly with all those wonderful cables around a center panel. It sells for about $6.70 on Ravelry and calls for aran/worsted weight yarn. My first thought is how cool would it be to use Cascade’s Cantata for this? This is not a machine washable yarn, so this would only work if ...

I haven't decided on my color yet...but I know I'm going to knit it with Juniper Moon Farm Rambouillet This is my treat if I finish all the things on my to-do list. Yes, I have to bribe myself WITH knitting to FINISH my knitting! ;)
