Hilde's Corner - Ode to Shawls

Hilde's Ode to Shawls I love shawls.  Shawls are my jam. I love knitting them and I love wearing them.  I feel they are the perfect project. Not as big as a sweater so they knit up faster, and the perfect accessory to throw on when you are a bit chilly or just need a little something to perk up an outfit. It took me a little while to figure out how to wear one, and honestly felt a bit silly at first, but once I figured out what I like, I have not looked back! I find in the winter months I will figure out my outfit for the day based on what shawl I want to wear! Some patterns require just one skein, which I love - I have so many single skeins. Shawls are the perfect use for those! My favorite shape to wear is an asymmetrical triangle. Crescents are a close second. I love Janina Kallio's Antarktis . Many of her patterns would work great with variegated yarns. Antarktis uses fingering weight yarn. You could go one color, variegated or multicolored for this one. There are so many

Noro Restock

Noro is one of those yarns that took me a while to fall in love with....but when I fell in love I fell HARD. In my mind, Noro was loud, scratchy, and just plain not for me. However, over the last few years, I started playing with some of their new lines and I no longer use "loud" and "scratchy" when describing Noro (well, not ALL of Noro at least!) Sonata 35 %   Cotton ,  25 %   Viscose ,  20 %   Silk ,  20 %   Polyamide An exercise in refined saturated color, Sonata is available in a rich palette of semi-solids. A delicious Sport Weight cotton blend for next-to-the-skin projects. We just added these 3 new colors! You can find them in-store or online HERE Tsubame 50 %   Silk ,  25 %   Wool ,  25 %   Polyamide Named for the barn swallow that migrates to Japan during cherry blossom season, this is a classic worsted-weight silk/wool blend. Each oversized skein contains 656 yards making it ideal for an endless variety of one-skein projects! I love that it has the fun c

Stephen West MKAL starts October 6th

Last year I participated in the Stephen West MKAL for the first time as I had lost my knitting mojo and needed something to fix it...and boy did that crazy shawl cure me!!! MKALs aren't for everyone. You don't know exactly what you are making (other than we know it's a shawl) but it's honestly not about the finished object. It's about letting go of some control, learning lots of new things, pushing yourself outside your comfort zone and working through the bumpy bits! I highly recommend the crazy ride.  So, what is a MKAL? You can read all about it HERE To join it's pretty easy... #1. Purchase the pattern on Ravelry  (you can purchase yourself or you can purchase through the shop) each Thursday during the month of October you will receive another portion of the pattern! #2. Get 5 skeins of yarn (2 skeins of the main color, 2 skeins of the contrast color and 1 skein of your color pop) Dive into your stash and see what you have, we can help ya fill in any holes #3

Laundress Wool & Cashmere Shampoo

I have been a HUUUUUGE fan of everything I've tried from Laundress...especially the Wool & Cashmere Shampoo...and I was so excited to find out they have received the Good Housekeeping seal of approval. I know this is a lesser known wool wash, but I first found out about it on a podcast and tried a sample and knew THIS was the wool wash I wanted in the shop! Read more about the Good Housekeeping seal of approval winners HERE You can find this in-store and online HERE

Meet the Team at A Little Knitty - Kris

Meet Kris... Hi! My name is Kris Brock and I’m so happy to be joining the team at A Little Knitty. I love to knit and have a passion for yarn so this is a good spot for me! I grew up in CA but have lived in WA for 27 years. My husband and I raised 2 sons here in Auburn and we love this community. I was a para-educator in the Auburn School District for 10 years and continue to work in the district as a part-time substitute teacher. Along with knitting, I love to cross stitch, read, cook, and especially travel with my husband, Steve. Knitting is always with me, especially on planes, and I have made a variety of things including sweaters, shawls, Christmas stockings, socks, gnomes, and many many baby blankets that I like to donate. I still have a lot to learn about knitting but I love to be challenged and try new patterns and yarns. I want to learn how to crochet and weave. I am always encouraged when I hear about other people's projects, so please share them with me when you c

If you are in the Auburn area this Friday, check out the Auburn Hot Summer Nights Market. It's great for stocking up on gifts for the Holidays (or for yourself!!!)

New Yarn - Cotton Merino Glam

If you know my tastes, you know I'm not a huge fan of glitter yarns. I think it stems from working with one once that really cut up my hands and I decided that just wasn't for me. But then this Cotton Merino Glam walked into my life and I decided to change my mind! Of course I fell in love with the dark red that can be kinda hard to photograph, but it's oh so cute in person!! You can find this free pattern on Ravelry HERE You can find the yarn in-store or online HERE Side note: I couldn't find a SINGLE cable hook that I own (and I own A LOT!!!!!!) so I thought I would show what I do when that happens. I have these fix-it tools everywhere, one end is pointy and the other end has a crochet hook. I totally cable with it all the time and I love it!!

Tweeeeeeeeed

I have always been a fan of tweed wool yarns. Those little cute nubs just bring sophistication (or at least I think so!). Lately, so many of the new yarns that I LOVE are variations on tweed, using contrasting colors to speckle the yarn or different fibers to give texture. I purchased my fall yarns months ago, but as they come in there is an overarching theme....TWEED!!! So let me introduce you to a few new friends! In the fingering weight category, I brought in Kathmandu Fingering. Last year I brought this yarn in and knit a sweater with it... ...but most of the colors never shipped and everything went into backorder status. I quietly took the yarn off the shelf and waited for it to be available again. It is now BACK and I can once again share the gorgeous garment I made with this yarn. I love that it is lightweight but still cozy! Learn more about the yarn HERE  and if you like this sweater I made, it is called Dark Water  (it is a long sleeve pattern, I just made it short sleeve!) a
