Jen Reeves, Owner of A Little Knitty, Creates a Cozy Spot
With a long and fascinating history that dates back centuries ago, knitting is practiced and enjoyed today by many individuals of all ages and cultural backgrounds. This soothing activity is often thought to create warmth and comfort through uniquely knitted items like shawls and blankets. Knitters find their passion in as many pathways as there is yarn selection! With the art form passed down through generations, picked up to occupy time, provide comfort during pregnancy, and more, knitting has been experiencing a major glow-up in recent years. Jen Reeves, owner of A Little Knitty, a store that brings to life the passion of yarn, hopes to foster a cozy atmosphere where people can come to find community and inspiration over their shared interest and love for knitting.
Back in 2008, alongside the birth of Reeves’s first child, was the creation of A Little Knitty. Reeves had spent her early motherhood years knitting hats for her son, which grew into a hobby she shared with his friends, eventually leading to sales outside of her friend circle and on the popular global online marketplace, Etsy. With her skill and passion attracting attention, Reeves began doing crafts shows, particularly around the holidays when her knitwear was a hit. Reeves moved on to share her love for all things knitting yarn by selling her unique knitting patterns online so that others may join in on the fun.
It was heartbreak that inspired Reeves to put on her thinking cap. After the passing of her mother in February 2016, Reeves felt the shortness of life and decided to direct her path toward what she was passionate about—yarn. Needing to balance her time as a stay-at-home mom, the Little Knitty owner found a place for herself with a company that had a storefront in Auburn, Washington.
What was once a small, shared space with a modest amount of yarn selection in downtown Auburn has now grown into a soon-to-be 3,000 sq. foot storefront in Milton, Washington. Reeves announced the exciting news recently, with the new locations furthering A Little Knitty’s mission to foster an inclusive gathering place for all races, religions, genders, and crafts.
The expansion has been led by Reeves’s mission to seek out local artisan dyers, as well as high-quality yarns, at a great price. This will add diversity to A Little Knitty’s already impressive selection of knitting yarn. Some brands they carry in the store are Universal Yarn, Queensland Collection, and Juniper Moon, but their local indie-dyed yarns are always rotating! So, make sure you stop by frequently to see what color adventure you want to embark on next.
Following the grand opening of their new location in Milton, A Little Knitty will be launching knitting starter kits, which has been a huge project for Reeves but she is thrilled to share what she knows. Having already taught hundreds of people how to knit, Reeves remains genuinely excited to meet each new person who crosses her path on their crafting journey. Reeves has heard from many people that they wish they could knit but just couldn’t do it, and this owner, whose skill at knitting is like breathing, has made it her mission to help others find comfort and success in this fulfilling craft.
