Kris' Corner - Christmas in July

Christmas In July

It is now July, and we only have 6 more months until Christmas. How can that be? I feel like we just had it. Ok, maybe that is the adult in me speaking. The child says, “Hooray” and wants to peruse patterns for Christmas goodies to start knitting and crocheting. I know that this seems strange in the middle of a hot summer, but you will be so happy to have completed a few gifts ahead of time. Once Fall is upon us time really takes off. Here are a few patterns that caught my eye.

The first pattern is called, “Christmas Caramel” and is by Petiteknit. These are cute little striped knit caramels that look like the ones you buy in the candy store with twisted ends. They would look so festive hanging on your Christmas tree or even tied onto the top of a package. They would even look festive in a candy dish on your coffeetable. Use your odds and ends from your stash or pick out some fun colors in Uptown Worsted or use the mini skeins from Blue Sky (we have them for sale individually up by the register). The pattern is free on Ravelry.

Another cute small project is, “Itty Bitty Cozy Kitty” by Caitie Moore. These small crocheted kitties are the sweetest with their pullover sweaters and scarves. They are all ready to go out and play in the snow. I love the way the stitched faces convey so many personalities and emotions just like our real furry friends! This pattern calls for a DK weight yarn and I think Ricorumi DK would work nicely. The pattern is $3 on Ravelry.

Next up is the “Reindeer Romp Ear Warmer” by RosePosieKnit Co. This pattern calls for a worsted weight yarn and the designer knit hers up in Malabrigo Rios. These Christmas jewel tones look so lovely. The animated reindeers seem to jump across the band. The pattern is $5 on Ravelry. If you prefer to knit a hat there is a “Reindeer Romp Beanie” pattern as well. It has the same cute Reindeer motif and also calls for a worsted weight yarn, Uptown Worsted would also be a great choice. This would be such a fun gift.

Speaking of cute Christmas beanies, check out “Gingerbread Season Beanie” by Nancy Bates. These darling gingerbread men are across the main area with smaller bands of snowflakes and peppermints on top. When I pulled up “projects” on the Ravelry pattern site I loved seeing how creative knitters were with the pattern. Hats, buttons, and scarves were stitched on the men to make them come alive on the hat. This hat is all about Christmas baking. I can almost smell the cookies coming out of the oven.

I hope this article inspires some early Christmas creativity. Trust me, when December rolls around, you will be so proud of yourself for jumping in early.

Karen Chemo Cap 5th Anniversary Makeover

I had someone ask me about the Karen Chemo Cap Fan Stitch and I decided the video and pattern were both in need of a make-over! Especially when I noticed this year is the 5th anniversary of publishing this pattern. When my mom had chemo I made her a few different hats because honestly it felt like the only thing I could do. I designed this one just for her, and was super excited when it was her favorite! After she passed I wasn't sure I wanted to release the design, but with a little time...it felt like the right thing to do! You can download the pattern for free here (please give it a favorite over on Ravelry so that it gets a little Ravelry love!!!):  Ravelry: Karen Chemo Cap pattern by A Little Knitty Designs You can purchase the yarn we used here:  Cumulus by Juniper Moon Farm (alittleknitty.com) Here is the video if you need help with the fan stitch!

Chemo Caps - Part 2

The Gia Chemo Cap doesn't have the same sort of story behind it as the Karen Cap , but it was developed with Chemo patients in mind! Please share this pattern with anyone who would like to knit a hat for someone in need! You can download your pattern here: http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/gia-chemo-cap

Free Pattern - Moose Mountain Cowl

This eliminates the purl stitches looking a little funky (if you know, you know).  We decreased by 25% of the stitches about halfway through the cowl to allow the top of the cowl to be a little closer to the neck and the bottom spread over your shoulders if you want to wear it that way! We gave you little check boxes to check off as you complete repeats. **PATTERN** Using Main Color, CO92, place stitch marker and join in the round Round 1: (K2, P2) Repeat parentheses all the way around Repeat Round 1 six more times       ⃞          ⃞...
