Hilde's Corner - Happy Fourth of July!

Happy Fourth of July! Happy Semiquincentennial!

I thought it would be fun to look up some patriotic patterns for this special Fourth of July, but who wants to wear a sweater or a hat and mittens on what is typically a rather hot day? I have found a few small items, however, which also works since the holiday is in just a few days and we’d need something that can be whipped up quickly.

These first two patterns are both made with fingering weight yarn. I would suggest Cascade Heritage for them.

Up first is Americana Wrist Cuff by Cirilia Rose and is free on Ravelry! Though it uses fingering weight yarn, I bet it could be easily adapted for other weight yarns, as well.

Here’s a clever headband Stars & Stripes Headband by Ash Christine that is $7 on Ravelry. What a fun way to add some red, white, and blue to an outfit!

These next three patterns are all made up in Worsted weight yarns. I would say Uptown Worsted in acrylic, or Cotton Supreme in cotton would work well for any of them.

This one is crocheted, and perfect for your drinks!

"Celebrate" Drink Cozy & Sleeve by Jennifer Renaud selling for $3 on Ravelry. Your drinks deserve to get decked out, too!

Here’s a wee little mascot that looks like it will come together quickly. Star Spangled Gnome by Billy and Baa that is free on Ravelry. I love the use of a pompom for this guy.

For those more open to a challenge, this American icon is worthy of recreating in crochet. Statue of Liberty Amigurumi by Ankita Palit This is a free pattern on Ravelry.

These last two pattern ideas are in honor of our national bird, the eagle. (Has anyone else been following eaglets in nests via video besides me?)

Bald eagle USA patriotic toy by Victoria Shevchuk is a cute way to dress up your keychain. It sells for $4.80 on Ravelry. It calls for sport weight yarn, but I think Ricorumi DK would work just fine.

Pocket Bald Eagle by Sweet Softies
selling for $3.99 on Ravelry. He is crocheted using bulky chenille yarn, so Bella Chenille would be perfect for this little guy! One could also use Ricorumi Nilli Nilli to make a smaller version, if one were so inclined. I love how his head looks like a big scoop of ice cream!

I wish you all a very happy Fourth of July this year! Happy 250th, USA!!

Karen Chemo Cap 5th Anniversary Makeover

I had someone ask me about the Karen Chemo Cap Fan Stitch and I decided the video and pattern were both in need of a make-over! Especially when I noticed this year is the 5th anniversary of publishing this pattern. When my mom had chemo I made her a few different hats because honestly it felt like the only thing I could do. I designed this one just for her, and was super excited when it was her favorite! After she passed I wasn't sure I wanted to release the design, but with a little time...it felt like the right thing to do! You can download the pattern for free here (please give it a favorite over on Ravelry so that it gets a little Ravelry love!!!):  Ravelry: Karen Chemo Cap pattern by A Little Knitty Designs You can purchase the yarn we used here:  Cumulus by Juniper Moon Farm (alittleknitty.com) Here is the video if you need help with the fan stitch!

Chemo Caps - Part 2

The Gia Chemo Cap doesn't have the same sort of story behind it as the Karen Cap , but it was developed with Chemo patients in mind! Please share this pattern with anyone who would like to knit a hat for someone in need! You can download your pattern here: http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/gia-chemo-cap

This eliminates the purl stitches looking a little funky (if you know, you know).  We decreased by 25% of the stitches about halfway through the cowl to allow the top of the cowl to be a little closer to the neck and the bottom spread over your shoulders if you want to wear it that way! We gave you little check boxes to check off as you complete repeats. **PATTERN** Using Main Color, CO92, place stitch marker and join in the round Round 1: (K2, P2) Repeat parentheses all the way around Repeat Round 1 six more times       ⃞          ⃞...
