Kris' Corner - Warm Hands

I don’t know about you but I’m sure loving the crisp cold mornings.  All of a sudden I’m digging through my coat closet for the perfect weight jacket and sometimes gloves.  Fall is the perfect time for my favorite, fingerless mitts. They are warm enough to take the chill off my hands but not too warm while I’m leaf peeping or on a hike.  Here are a few patterns that caught my eye.

In honor of Halloween, which is creeping up on us rather quickly, I found these creepy mitts called “Arachne Mitts” by Hook Mountain Handmade. You gotta love the spider on the top of each hand!!!! The pattern calls for sports weight yarn.  I’m thinking Yarnalia Marvel or Malagrigo Arroyo would be nice with its rich autumn colors!  The pattern is $5 on Ravelry.

Next one is “Autumnal Mitts” by Fibre and Threads. Look at the beautiful leaf pattern that weaves across the top of the hands.  This pattern is free on Ravelry.  It calls for DK weight yarn.  I was thinking our new yarn Harmony by Yarn Citizen would be a beautiful choice.

As I continued to get completely engrossed in all of the fingerless mitts patterns Jen was looking over my shoulder and these fun ones caught her eye. They are called “Picos Mitts” by Belen Fernandez.  I love the geometric design using multiple colors.  This would be a GREAT stash buster if you have leftovers from socks....or any locally dyed fingering weight yarn!    The pattern is about $7.50 on Ravelry.

Last one is for all of you crocheters.  It’s called, “Mystery Crochet Fingerless Gloves” by Anastacia Zittel and it is free on Ravelry.  These mitts aren’t going to keep you as warm with the open lace work but boy are they stunning!  A perfect yarn for this would be Heritage by Cascade

Fingerless Mitts are fun to make and a pretty quick project for yourself or for a gift.

Hope you are inspired to look further into making a pair or two or maybe even three.

Karen Chemo Cap 5th Anniversary Makeover

I had someone ask me about the Karen Chemo Cap Fan Stitch and I decided the video and pattern were both in need of a make-over! Especially when I noticed this year is the 5th anniversary of publishing this pattern. When my mom had chemo I made her a few different hats because honestly it felt like the only thing I could do. I designed this one just for her, and was super excited when it was her favorite! After she passed I wasn't sure I wanted to release the design, but with a little time...it felt like the right thing to do! You can download the pattern for free here (please give it a favorite over on Ravelry so that it gets a little Ravelry love!!!):  Ravelry: Karen Chemo Cap pattern by A Little Knitty Designs You can purchase the yarn we used here:  Cumulus by Juniper Moon Farm (alittleknitty.com) Here is the video if you need help with the fan stitch!

Chemo Caps - Part 2

The Gia Chemo Cap doesn't have the same sort of story behind it as the Karen Cap , but it was developed with Chemo patients in mind! Please share this pattern with anyone who would like to knit a hat for someone in need! You can download your pattern here: http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/gia-chemo-cap
