Kris' Corner - Socks Will Travel

As summer moves into August I’m thinking about any last minute trips or excursions I can squeeze in before school begins and the days shorten.  Of course this always leads me to knitting or crochet projects that I can take on the run and aren’t cumbersome or hot on my lap. Socks fit that bill and are the perfect project for car rides, plane trips or days in the park or at the beach on a blanket with a picnic basket.  As I searched for some fun summer-themes socks these caught my eye:

I love the hot pink, bright greens and black in these “One In A Melon Socks” by Katie Franceschi. These watermelon socks shout “summer” to me and would be so cute to wear with your Birkenstocks!  ALK has a large variety of Heritage sock yarn colors including a hot pink that would be perfect for this pattern.  Round it off with some mini skeins from Rainier Roses and you are set.  The pattern is $6.95 on Ravelry.

Speaking of summer treats, check out these “Easy As Pie Socks Cuff Down” by Carlie Perrins. Carlie has come up with three “pie” patterns: Crumble Socks, Mousse Socks and Crust Socks.  She describes each pattern as, “a whimsical take on favourite pie toppings”.  The photos of her socks next to yummy a-la-mode pies makes me hungry for one of my mother-in-laws peach pies.  These patterns are cuff down but she also provides a link if you prefer toe up.  The 3 pattern set is $9.00 on Ravelry.  Once again Heritage and mini skeins or bits from your stash would be perfect.

Another pattern that includes 3 sock patterns is “Shorty Sock Set” by Summer Lee.  Shorty socks are the best in hot weather and are a quick knit.  I love the different cuffs including a sweet curving one that looks like a soft ruffle.  One of them even has a small pom pom on the back.  I love all the different pattern choices she has designed from solids to stripes to variegated.  Any sock yarn will work.

I guess I lied.  The last pattern I’m highlighting is not a sock pattern but you will understand why I had to include it when you see the photo.  This pattern is called “Chill Watermelon” and is a crocheted Amigurumi pattern by Nada Fatouh.  The black shades,  the coconut drink and yellow flower all made me smile.  What’s not to like about this Chilling gal!?  This pattern is available on Ravelry and is $3.99.  Ricorumi Solids would work well for this project.

Hope you find the perfect end of summer pattern to enjoy as we count down the days until Fall.

Karen Chemo Cap 5th Anniversary Makeover

I had someone ask me about the Karen Chemo Cap Fan Stitch and I decided the video and pattern were both in need of a make-over! Especially when I noticed this year is the 5th anniversary of publishing this pattern. When my mom had chemo I made her a few different hats because honestly it felt like the only thing I could do. I designed this one just for her, and was super excited when it was her favorite! After she passed I wasn't sure I wanted to release the design, but with a little time...it felt like the right thing to do! You can download the pattern for free here (please give it a favorite over on Ravelry so that it gets a little Ravelry love!!!):  Ravelry: Karen Chemo Cap pattern by A Little Knitty Designs You can purchase the yarn we used here:  Cumulus by Juniper Moon Farm (alittleknitty.com) Here is the video if you need help with the fan stitch!

Chemo Caps - Part 2

The Gia Chemo Cap doesn't have the same sort of story behind it as the Karen Cap , but it was developed with Chemo patients in mind! Please share this pattern with anyone who would like to knit a hat for someone in need! You can download your pattern here: http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/gia-chemo-cap

This eliminates the purl stitches looking a little funky (if you know, you know).  We decreased by 25% of the stitches about halfway through the cowl to allow the top of the cowl to be a little closer to the neck and the bottom spread over your shoulders if you want to wear it that way! We gave you little check boxes to check off as you complete repeats. **PATTERN** Using Main Color, CO92, place stitch marker and join in the round Round 1: (K2, P2) Repeat parentheses all the way around Repeat Round 1 six more times       ⃞          ⃞...
