Hilde's Corner - Happy Valentine's Day

Valentine’s Day is a perfect time to knit or crochet for a special someone. Show the people you love how much you love them by creating something fun or sweet. Or shower yourself with a little love!  For the kids in your life, how about these really sweet DumDum LoveBugs by K4TT (free on Ravelry!) that can hold a fun candy? They are crocheted using worsted weight yarn (We recommend Cotton Supreme or Uptown Worsted ) and seem like they would work up quickly. A fun way to present a sweet treat! Here’s a sweet little guy - Valentine’s Love Me Gnome by Nazeli Tadevosyan and is $3 on Ravelry. He’s also crocheted using sport weight yarn. Thankfully with stuffies we can easily use different weight yarns (and adjust hook sizes) - the finished object will just come out a slightly different size (or a huge difference in size depending on how far you go!) The shop’s Ricorumi DK is what I would use for this little guy. Lots of color choices to make him your own. My favorite valentine pattern I fo

Cumulus, how i love thee

How Do I Love Thee? (Sonnet 43) Elizabeth Barrett Browning 1806 –1861 How do I love thee? Let me count the ways. I love thee to the depth and breadth and height My soul can reach, when feeling out of sight For the ends of being and ideal grace.... Ok, enough with the schmaltzy poem...but I seriously believe it was written for my beloved Cumulus yarn!!  Last year I knit up this beautiful shawl named Iris ( FREE pattern on Ravelry!! )with 2 colors of Cumulus (one solid , the other multicolored) and it started my love affair with this yarn. Then, more recently, Hilde introduced me to the pattern Lollygag ( another FREE pattern on Ravelry ) and I knit up this cozy little cowl that was SO fun and had very, very little leftovers (I HATE LEFTOVERS!!!!) I went looking for a baby blanket pattern last week...and stumbled upon this one, also knit with Cumulus , distributed by the same yarn shop as Lollygag (we have a type) AND also free on Ravelry!! This pattern is called Sliding is Fun and it w

Kris' Corner - Happy New Year

Happy New Year fiber friends.  Ok, I realize its almost February but I’m trying to drag out the holidays as long as possible. I confess I just packed away the last Christmas decorations and I still have white lights strewn across my kitchen. These dark wet days can get me down and having those lights lifts my spirits. Of course, yarn lifts my spirits as well and I do love to snuggle up inside with a knitting project and cup of coffee or tea. Hilde has already shared with you her yarny resolutions for the New Year and so I’m going to piggyback on her article and share mine with you as well. First off is delving into my ever-growing stash of yarn. Yep, I have quite a bit and so I’ve decided to, once a month, do one of two things to get my backstock a bit more under control. Either I will pick a skein or hank of something from my bins and use it in a new project or I will pull out a WIP and finish it or frog it. Dealing with my stash will be quite a chore but I know it’s a treasure trove

Ravelry Hot Right Now Patterns

Sometimes I love to check out what is Hot Right Now on Ravelry. It isn't always a new pattern, but I spotted this one today and thought it was cute...and right now it is FREE!! The hat is written for two strands of fingering weight held double (they specifically call out Malabrigo Sock) this would be a great project for that random skein of fingering weight yarn you picked up on that one trip you took!! And the top looks so cute!! You can find the pattern HERE Sometimes patterns aren't free forever, and by the time you are reading this, it could be a paid for pattern!

Stu and his hats!

Stu’s New Year’s Resolution is to be voted in as The Gnome With The Best Adorned Dome for 2024. He is anxiously waiting for you to make his new hats for the new year. If you have not yet crochet your own Stylin’ Stu you can still join in on the fun. You can get the pattern for Stu from Teresa at the class. Hilde's Corner

HAPPY NEW YEAR to all A Little Knitty friends! May 2024 treat you well with lots of yarny type goodies and projects. Have you made any yarn related resolutions this year? I think this is a good time of year to resolve to learn something new or try something new to move forward in your chosen craft. As fiber artists, we never stop learning. Even if we’ve done something for decades, there is always something new to try or learn. As I write this, I think my yarny resolution is twofold. You are all my witnesses as I resolve this year to 1) learn a new technique 2) knit with a yarn I have never tried before. I don’t yet know what the new technique will be, but as for a new yarn, that will be easier as Jen is always bringing new yarns into the shop. There are even some that have been in the shop a while I have yet to try! I am determined this year to knit with Queensland Kathmandu fingering . This one catches my eye every time I pass it by in the shop. I am torn with wanting to knit a sweate

Hexi Granny Square Sweater

Last weekend I finished this amazingly fast sweater and shared it on social media. It was exciting to see how many people dug it like me!!! After seeing Jason Mamoa rocking one...I decided I needed one too!!! I roughly followed this one....but took some short cuts. I didn't do real sleeves, just let them be billowy.  https://sarahmaker.com/crochet-granny-hexagon-cardigan/ Basically make 2 six sided granny hexagons and sew them up. It was so easy peasy!!! You can find the yarn I used (Offbeat) in-store or online HERE you just need 2 balls! I used a size J hook because I wanted it to have a ton of drape and I'm a tight crocheter!!!

Lumos Knitting Light

I completely fell in love with this knitting light the first time I used it! I was SO excited to discover recently that I could get these for the shop!! If you wanna read more about how amazing this light is, check out this article:  https://www.interweave.com/article/knitting/review-lumos-knitting-light/ You can purchase these in-store or online HERE

Cozy Cowl

I love designs by Justyna Lorkowska (she designed the Close to You Shawl) and I had the itch to do a super soft cowl with Herriot Fine...so this seemed like a good fit! It was fun to knit and it is SO soft and light to wear!! We used 1 skein of Juniper Moon Farms Herriot Fine (I did omit one repeat of the last chart to make sure I had enough yarn to finish!!!)  You can find the pattern HERE

Cordsmith

Fiberside chat with Carson Demers

Years ago I took a class with Carson and it REALLY changed my knitting.  I signed up SUPER late at Knit Fit (a local fiber festival that sadly is no longer) and the only class left was Carson's. I wasn't familiar with him, and the class was called something about the ergonomics of knitting (which did NOT sound like a thrilling class) but I signed up because I was determined to attend a class!! The class blew my socks off!! He is a master of giving information on how to keep our most important tools (OUR HANDS) working for a long time!!! Be sure to catch this amazing Fireside Chat with Carson...you won't be sorry!! When you register, be sure to scroll all the way to the bottom of the list and pick A Little Knitty so we get the credit for sending you!!! Ok...Here's the real information on the chat... Knitting New Year Resolutions Here we are, fortunate to be at the start of a new year! How did you grow as a knitter in 2023? Do you have a plan for growth and knitting susta
