Brrrrr....it's cold in here

It's that time of year...when it gets chilly in the shop...so I just wanted to put out a quick Public Service Announcement We have a cement floor that gets cold and stays cold. It's not noticeable when you are shopping, but if you are in a class or sit-n-stitch it can be chilly. I do TRY to remember to preheat the floors with our portable heater...but I can't always promise they will be up to a good temperature. Because of the way the heating system was set up, the registers are at the front of the shop so it can get overly warm up there, and still chilly in the back...there is not much we can do about this situation. The building is old and she has issues! ;) The coldest spot in the shop is near the glass doors in the classroom area. If you naturally run cold, please don't sit on that side of the table. If there are no other seats, just let an employee know and we can move things around. Dress in layers and if your feet get cold, wear socks (we can show ya how to knit

Congratulations to our winners of the Frog it or Finish it challenge (although, I think we ALLLLLL won by finishing or ripping out those languishing projects!!!!!) Congratulations to Audrey for ripping it out so it can become something different!!! WOW!!!!! Way to finish a project I know took a TON of knitting!!!!! Great work, Jessica!!! We didn't have a before pic, but I bet this was just hanging out in a project bag somewhere and feels so good to be done!!! Congrats, Brittani Each winner received a Noro Magazine, a skein of fingering weight yarn and some candy!!

Yarnalia Sweater

I recently introduced Wonder from Yarnalia to everyone And I was so excited to cast on a baby sweater with this awesome yarn! At first, I knit a baby cardigan, but the pattern and the yarn just weren't the best pairing...so I grabbed the Flax sweater pattern and made the smallest size. The only changes I made were changing my color every 4 rounds to create a muted rainbow yoke and I removed the garter stitch on the arms!   Not only did I want this as a sample for the shop, I wanted to throw it through the washer and dryer like it would on a normal basis in a home where there is a new little baby.  The photo above is after one washing. I plan on washing this a lot more times, but haven't had the ability to this week! But I was SOOOOO happy with how it washed up. It kept its shape and got even softer!! Stay tuned as I share more washings!!!

Hilde's Corner - Fall is here!

Fall is here! Fall is here!! The very best time of the year! I love it. I am trying so hard to stay with my current knit projects, but it’s so hard now with the cooler weather and seeing new patterns crop up that I feel I just have to knit NOW! Like these fingerless mitts. I dropped everything to knit these, I like them so much. I just love their fall motif. I just hope I can finish them before fall is over. They’re called Oak Hollow by Dianna Walla and they go for $5 on Ravelry. I am using Queensland Collection United to make them. I love the choice of colors this yarn has to offer. Marvel by Yarnalia would be another fun choice. With Halloween fast approaching, have you seen these cute little witch hats? They would make cute little decor on a book shelf or something. The pattern is called Ensorcellment by Hunter Hammersen and sells for $10 on Ravelry. It is written for any gauge yarn, so that makes it much easier for yarn choices. Find a color you like, and go with it! I think I

Kris' Corner - Fall Project Bags

September is already here, and just like my co-workers, I am already thinking and dreaming about starting up some Fall projects. I realized, this year, that I am a seasonal knitter and seem to compartmentalize my projects based on what season it is. I try, not always successfully, to complete certain projects in a given season, before I launch into the next one. Maybe a bit too organized for you but it seems to work for me. I had 4 projects dedicated to Summer and I’m trying with all my might to finish them before I cast on my Fall patterns. I guess I know myself too well that if I set those Summer ones aside there is a pretty good chance they will land in my hidden WIP pile. Here are the Fall projects I’ve chosen so far that are waiting in their bags for me to begin: First bag contains the makings of a scarf called, “ Imagine When ” by Joji. I saw it on display at the Juni & Si trunk show at A Little Knitty and fell in love with the autumn colors and the interesting stitches. I pi

My favorite on the go project

My favorite on-the-go project has to be a tube scarf. I love taking bits of yarn leftover from other projects and making them into something usable. Plus, I can totally chat and drink and not worry about messing up my pattern.  Here is my recipe... US3-16" circular knitting needle Crochet hook about the size of your knitting needle 100-200g fingering weight yarn (depends on if you want a single wrap or a double wrap) Waste Yarn **PATTERN** Using the US3-16" circular knitting needle AND the crochet hook, provisionally cast on enough stitches to stretch around the 16" needle (I do 100 or so, do what you like!) Set-up Rounds: For 2 rounds knit with your first color. Be sure to not use up ALL of this color as at the very end you will knit 1 round with this color then kitchener it closed with this color as well! For the whole scarf, you will knit 4 rounds with 1 color then 4 rounds with another color, then switch back to the first color and repeat until one of the colors runs

Lantern Moon Knitting Needle Sets

Fall is here and knitting season is ON!!!! It's the perfect time to treat yourself to a beautiful knitting needle set to pamper your hands this fall! If you haven't tried these needles, it is like knitting with butter! My only complaint on the line is that the needle size does rub off...so make sure you have a knitting needle gauge nearby! Let me introduce the newest members of the Lantern Moon Knitting Needle Set line... Grace - 4" interchangeable set 5 pairs Lantern Moon's "Grace" Set of interchangeable Ebony knitting needles contains fewer needle sizes than some of the other Lantern Moon sets, allowing affordability for those who are only seeking specific sizes. Includes 5 pairs of IC needles: US 2.5, 4, 6, 7, and 8. 2 swivel cords: 1ea for creating lengths of 16" or 20" circulars Accessories including end caps, tightening tools, and colorful tassel stitch markers, and everything is packed in a very pretty silk case with an Embroidered Floral Mot

Sophie Scarf or Shawl

One pattern keeps coming up over and over in the shop lately...and it is the Sophie Scarf & Sophie Shawl! The Sophie Scarf is a smaller version that you can tie around the neck. It's cute and gives a pop of color to any outfit! It is knit using DK weight yarn, which would be beautiful in a locally dyed yarn!! The Sophie Shawl is a bigger version of the scarf, using worsted-weight yarn. This would be amazing in our new yarn Amano Warmi Journeys or Malabrigo Rios Which one will you knit? I have one started....but then I lost my other ball of yarn...so it is on hold until I find it!!!! My advice for this pattern is to mark every time you increase or decrease so you don't have to keep track as much! I used 3 stitch markers. When I needed to mark the next increase, I just took the lowest stitch marker off and played a little game of leapfrog! :) This way I didn't have to find 2,982,897 stitch markers...although I'm certain if I looked under the couch cushions, I might
