Blind Date with a Book

We recently brought in a new consignor in the shop...and we wanted to introduce them! These adorable packages are a Blind Date with a Book. Each book is a used book (frequently obtained at library book sales or other places the owner finds books). She then decorates them adorably, tucks in a fun treat and writes the genre of book at the bottom. HOW CUTE IS THAT????? Each Blind Date with a Book is only $9 and makes a fun gift too! These are available in-store only.

Hilde's Corner - The Dawn Chorus

I’ve been waking up more and more these mornings to the sweet sounds of the Dawn Chorus. Spring is in full swing and the birds are singing! Oh, how they sing in the morning! (Admittedly, some mornings I wish they would keep it down for a few more hours…) No one really knows why the birds sing in the morning, but what an amazing phenomenon. With that cacophony of song the birds just seem to be so happy. Being a bit of a bird nerd, I thought it would be fun to find some patterns out there inspired by our feathered friends. This hat shows different birds peeking through the branches of brambles. The pattern is Bramble Birds by Sara Huntington Burch and sells for $5 on Ravelry. It is made using fingering weight yarn and utilizes cables and stranded colorwork. Cascade Heritage would work very well for this, and so would the more tonal Heather Ellis Art fingering yarns. The Jay Sweater by Rachel Brockman was inspired by the colorations and patterning of the blue jay. I love this idea and ...

Kris' Corner

I just read Hilde’s Corner from last week’s newsletter and decided I would continue on with a Part 2 of her theme of warm-weather knitting. In case you don’t know, customers occasionally confuse the two of us at the shop, so we like to refer to ourselves as “The Twins”. So I’m thinking that it is appropriate for me to jump on board with her article theme since twins tend to think alike:) Short-sleeved light-weight sweaters are so nice in the spring and summer, and I actually think I enjoy knitting them more than long-sleeved sweaters. Perhaps this is because it is a quicker knit. Also, my body temp tends to run on the warm side, so lighter yarns feel good on my skin. I have a couple of favorite sweaters I have made that I want to highlight in this article, as well as a new one I’m ready to start. “ Anker’s Summer Shirt ” is a great short-sleeved knit and one of my favorites. It is knit from top down and the yoke is worked in sections of ribbing. These sections are not only fun to kn...

Hilde's Corner

Warm weather is just around the corner! We’ve had a taste of some warm days already, so we know more is on the way. Personally, I kinda hate to see the cool days leave us, as it means putting away the warm woolen things I love to wear. But we can still create lovely cooler items for the summer! We brought in Trill by Urth , a fingering-weight yarn made of a wool and linen blend. I love the rich, jewel-like colors. It would be great for tees and tanks for layering . Haiku by Knitting For Breakfast sells for about $6 on Ravelry and would be amazing knit up in Trill. I love the lace at the top.  Or Right As Rain by Jamie Hoffman that sells for $10 on Ravelry, with it’s sweet line of lace down the center. I’ve just finished a cardigan using Jody Long’s Satiny yarn , a 100% cotton DK-weight yarn. I used it to make Black Barlow by Marie Amelie Designs, a FREE pattern on Ravelry, but I made my sleeves a bit shorter. It’s perfect for layering when mornings or evenings are still a bit...
