Loose Ends Project

When a crafter dies mid-project, or is no longer able to do handwork due to disability or illness, they will likely have unfinished items they were making for friends and family. These tangible, handmade expressions of love could get lost, donated away, or thrown out. Loose Ends aims to ease grief, create community, and inspire generosity by matching volunteer handwork finishers with projects people have left undone due to death or disability.  NEED A PROJECT FINISHED? Visit us online to find out if your project qualifies to be completed by a Loose Ends finisher. If it does, simply fill out the online form and we will match you with a volunteer who has the skills and time to get the job done.  HAVE SOME TIME TO GIVE? As a crafter, you understand that a handmade gift is priceless. The materials and hours that go into making something for a loved one are a gesture of love. Your efforts will reconnect an individual with a garment or accessory that had been begun for them by a lo...

Square Peg Seasonal Sets -July is here!!

How GORGEOUS is this yarn?? I just finished the Weekend Hat with a skein of the DK and it was so fun to see how it worked up.  As soon as I was done I threw it on my head and my husband walks onto the backporch and says "It's really weird to come out here on a 85 degree day and see you wearing a knit hat". Is it really that weird though?? I mean I doubt it is the first time ;) You can pick up the Seasonal Set HERE and the yarn will be released soon to purchase by itself.

Kris' Corner - Hot Summer Projects

As we jump into the peak of summer “hot” is on our minds as the temps rise and we are bbqing, swimming and just enjoying our glorious PNW backyard. So grab a glass of iced tea to keep you cool as you read my “Hot” article. The first pattern is called “Hot Oatmeal Shawl” and is full of lacy yarn overs that provide holes for the summer breeze to waft through. I think 100% cotton Huasco Coton yarn would be perfect for this project. The triangular boomerang shape shows off the lace holes giving it a soft drape to throw over your shoulders. The pattern is by SweaterFreak and is available for $7 on Ravelry. It wouldn’t be a “hot” summer without hot air balloons so I had to include this pattern that is called, “Hot Air Balloon” by Angela Louise Wood . This simple knit blanket is knit with one color but has purled areas, in the design, that create a hot air balloon motif along with some fluffy clouds. I love how these images pop off the blanket. A great choice of yarn for this blanket would b...

The Great Gauge Project

I was STUPID excited to hear about THE GREAT GAUGE PROJECT through cleevelyknits  I am a huge nerd for anything that allows me to flex my math nerd brain at the same time as my knitting nerd brain.  Gauge is super important when knitting...but not only understanding your personal gauge for a pattern, but how your gauge measures up across all knitters. When you know that you are at the top % of tight knitters across a large number of knitters from all over the world, then you will know that for most patterns out there you just will HAVE to increase your needle size.  So THE GREAT GAUGE PROJECT seeks to shed some light on differences in gauge among a large sample and I am HERE FOR IT!!!!! If you want to read more about it, or participate...go over to  https://cleevelyknits.com/pages/the-great-gauge-project

Kris' Corner - Christmas in July

Christmas In July It is now July, and we only have 6 more months until Christmas. How can that be? I feel like we just had it. Ok, maybe that is the adult in me speaking. The child says, “Hooray” and wants to peruse patterns for Christmas goodies to start knitting and crocheting. I know that this seems strange in the middle of a hot summer, but you will be so happy to have completed a few gifts ahead of time. Once Fall is upon us time really takes off. Here are a few patterns that caught my eye. The first pattern is called, “ Christmas Caramel” and is by Petiteknit . These are cute little striped knit caramels that look like the ones you buy in the candy store with twisted ends. They would look so festive hanging on your Christmas tree or even tied onto the top of a package. They would even look festive in a candy dish on your coffeetable. Use your odds and ends from your stash or pick out some fun colors in Uptown Worsted or use the mini skeins from Blue Sky (we have them fo...

Hilde's Corner - Happy Fourth of July!

Happy Fourth of July! Happy Semiquincentennial! I thought it would be fun to look up some patriotic patterns for this special Fourth of July, but who wants to wear a sweater or a hat and mittens on what is typically a rather hot day? I have found a few small items, however, which also works since the holiday is in just a few days and we’d need something that can be whipped up quickly. These first two patterns are both made with fingering weight yarn. I would suggest Cascade Heritage for them. Up first is Americana Wrist Cuff by Cirilia Rose and is free on Ravelry! Though it uses fingering weight yarn, I bet it could be easily adapted for other weight yarns, as well. Here’s a clever headband Stars & Stripes Headband by Ash Christine that is $7 on Ravelry. What a fun way to add some red, white, and blue to an outfit! These next three patterns are all made up in Worsted weight yarns. I would say Uptown Worsted in acrylic, or Cotton Supreme in cotton would work well for any of them. T...
