Nydia Cardigan

A few weeks ago I shared my latest knit that I completed (ends woven in and buttons installed...who is this?????) and I wanted to share that the pattern is now live!!! I was lucky enough to test knit this beauty and I'm so glad I did! It's not a simple knit...but SO worth the effort! The biggest problem is paying attention...which is not a strong suit of mine! But once I got through the raglan increases it was easy sailing!!! It's not one I could do in a social situation or after a glass of wine, but once I got the rhythm I did enjoy it a lot. And the pattern is VERY well written!!! Pattern: Nydia Cardigan by Vanessa Smith (a local gal!!!) I used Malabrigo Arroyo in Paris Night!

My Heart is Melted!!!

Last week was a rough one for me personally....then someone stole my yarn bomb. I think if it had been there awhile, I wouldn't have been so frustrated, but I just finished it January 19th (ya, I know this because I have been logging everything I've been making...GO ME!!!) Anyway, while creating it I flared up my tendonitis SO bad that I'm still paying for it. So to have the yarn bomb stolen just added insult to actual injury! An AMAZING customer offered/insisted on making another one and she worked FAST!! It was so fun to install it last week and made me happy knowing what an amazing community we have.  So imagine my surprise this morning as I walk around the corner to see the shop completely yarn bombed!! I gasped and then burst into tears (if you were driving by, you probably thought I lost my darn mind!!!)  This photo doesn't do it justice...all I saw was that BEAUTIFUL pole full of color and the trash can. Then I started noticing a few on other poles and trees...th

Restock of National Parks Kits

National Park kits have been restocked ONCE AGAIN!!!! I haven't announced this on social media yet, so newsletter readers get first crack at them. If you are on our waitlist, your kit has your name on it and you will be contacted soon (if you haven't already been contacted!!) Please note: If you run out of yarn, please let us know and we will grab you a bit more (either mail it or you can come in and pick it up). We overestimated the yarn on every color, but scales can be funky and we are only human and could have made a mistake. We did not knit ours with the 2" brim so that may make a difference if you want a longer brim or if you are a looser knitter. We are happy to upgrade you to a FULL skein of the green for $10 extra, just let us know!! You can get your kit HERE and have it shipped or pick up in-store. In theory we will have some for sale in-store, but they have been selling out so fast I would get it online!!

Surprise Sunday Sit-n-Stitch

Hilde's Corner - Cozy Warm Hat

Hello Everyone! I'm planning a short trip to Minnesota to see family etc, and decided I need a nice warm hat for the occasion. (My sister and her hubby are participating in a huge cross-country ski event and we'll be outside to cheer them on! I'll need something warm for sure!) It was my chance to try Herriot Great from Juniper Moon Farm ! I've always wanted to try this super soft yarn. I hesitated because it's an alpaca yarn and in the past sometimes alpaca has been scratchy to wear, but alpaca is known for its warmth, so I decided to try it.  I am knitting up Heather Hat by Yaroslava Handmade (pattern is $5.50 Canadian) with large, soft, gorgeous cables. The hat is not done yet, but I have to say the yarn is SO soft and I'm not noticing any itch factor at all! At this point I am so in love with this yarn!!! As it comes in other weights, my mind is reeling with possibilities! A shawl or cowl in this so soft yarn is a must knit on my (rather large) "to kni

Kris' Corner - Longing For Spring

I’m actually seeing some tiny green sprouts in my yard and it makes me long for Spring. With the dark dreary rainy February days, we all could use a little color.  Jen has brought in some beautiful new bright palettes of yarn including Maribel’s / Rainier Roses'  Good Vibes Only... and a gorgeous bright green yarn by Apple Fiber Studio  called New Growth. I’m not even a green lover but this one is an eye-catcher reminding me of bright green grass in a garden. If I had my way, my yard would be a garden full of tulips, which happens to be my favorite flower. As I dream about Spring and tulips I did a search on Ravelry for some knitting inspiration to carry me through the last weeks of Winter. Here’s what I found: First off is, “Big Tulips Beanie” by Kasia Ancuta . The bright Spring colors caught my eye and I love that it’s a quick knit in bulky yarn.  Another sweet hat is, “Tulip Fields” by Willow Dawn done in fingering weight yarn. The muted colorwork is intricate and beautiful. Th

New Yarn - Cherub DK

I have knit this dress a couple times and I have LOVED it every single time. We got a new yarn in the shop and I just had to take it for a test drive...and I knew this dress would be perfect! About the yarn - The yarn is called Cherub DK and it is from Cascade Yarn. It does have a little more sheen than I expected, which makes it a little slippery to knit with. I noticed sometimes my gauge changed a tiny bit because of the slip factor. But the COST of this yarn ($3.50 per 50g ball) and the ability to throw it in the washing machine makes this yarn AWESOME!!! It's great for knit or crochet!! You can find this yarn in-store or online!! About the dress - The dress is called Lil Rosebud Seamless Dress and it comes in so many sizes, but I have only knit the small one because it's SOOO cute on tiny babies and the perfect baby shower gift!

Hilde's Corner - More Love

I have more Valentine's Day pattern ideas! I saw these and can't help myself - they're cute! The first one is called Half of my Heart Beanie (or cowl!) by Naomi Zimmer. It uses worsted weight yarn, so Malabrigo Rios would be perfect for this or Deluxe Worsted ( Superwash or Tweed Superwash ). It's $6.50 on Ravelry (for either beanie or the cowl). And then I found The Way To My Heart by Hook Mountain Handmade . Hearts for cupcakes!!! Yes - that's totally the way to my heart! It uses DK weight yarn and would be so great in Jody Long Ciao or our new Cherub DK. The pattern is $5 on Ravelry. These are not Valentine's but they are super cute socks called Text(ure) Me Again by Jennifer Beaulieu . They would be so great done up in the Rainier Roses Minis !!! The pattern sells for $6 on Ravelry. I think they are so fun and what a beautiful use for those gorgeous minis we love so much. This pattern is worked in fingering, but there is a DK version as well! So the DK min

St. Jude knitting challenge

Remember that ice bucket challenge a few years ago to raise money and awareness for ALS research? Well, St. Jude Children's Hospital is doing lots of different challenges ...and in March they are doing KNITTING.  They are just asking for you to sign up, share with your friends and family, show the progress as you knit, celebrate when you finish and you can choose what to do with it at the end. I'm thinking I'll do a baby blanket and donate to a local children's hospital!!! Or maybe give away something adorable to the highest donor...we shall see! If you would like to join me, go to https://www.stjude.org/get-involved/other-ways/facebook-challenges.html I will say, I joined the FB group and there were SOOO many people not understanding how it worked and so much chatter that I had to remove myself from the group. It's NOT going to stop me from fundraising in March, but I won't be hanging out in the FB group!  Here is a group just for A Little Knitty!!! https://www

Hilde's Corner - Valentine-y Fun

Valentine's Day is coming! Time to start thinking of love. Will you knit something for your loved one? Or maybe love on yourself for a change and knit something for YOU! I looked up patterns that seem "valetine-y" and found a few fun ones. How about this cute sweater with stylized hearts on it? It's called Sweetheart by Linnea Ornstein and is $8 on Ravelry. It is made up with aran yarn. How cozy would it be in Ella Rae's Cozy Alpaca Chunky ? It would be SO soft and cozy! (How many times can i use the word "cozy"? Hee hee) I LOVE this sweet hat! It's called Ebba Hat and it's by Kristin Drysdale and is $6 on Ravelry. It uses sport weight yarn. Malabrigo Arroyo would be so nice for this. And these, for the crocheters out there, are super sweet for gifts. A Hershey's Kiss by Ham and Eggs and it's FREE on Ravelry!  Or how about Itty Bitty Valentine Kitty by Caitie Moore for $3 on Ravelry with a cute heart balloon! So sweet! The kiss uses w
