Hello Everyone!
I have been MIA for the past month, as Jen allowed me time off to be with my family as my daughter got married. We had lots of family come in, some coming from as far away as Norway. So getting the chance to hang out with them as much as possible was so very much appreciated. The wedding was beautiful, and I now have a new son-in-law, who we all adore.
I did, however, miss the shop a ton, and can’t wait to see everyone again! Please say hello when you stop in - I’d love to see you!
So what have I been working on this past summer? Honestly, not much as it’s been a crazy busy summer. But Jen’s cruise to Alaska was amazing, and getting to visit so many yarn shops was so inspiring!! I don’t think it has to be said that all of us bought lots of yarn! (I highly recommend next year’s cruise - it has a crochet theme, but knitters are welcome, too. You’ll love being able to go to all the yarn shops in all the places, and have sit and stitch at sea, and all the things yarnies love! Not to mention, the stunningly gorgeous views that only Alaska can provide)
I imagine many of you also had beautiful trips this summer that included yarn shops and souvenir yarns. So I thought some pattern suggestions for those souvenir beauties might be a good thing for all of us right now! I know many of those souvenir yarns tend to be variegated so I found these patterns that would work well with variegated yarn.
Impulse Buy by Barbara Benson is perfect because it works for any weight yarn and any gauge! It costs $7 on Ravelry, but a good one to have in your library.
Hermione Toad’s Everyday Hat by Chit Chat knits is a free pattern that uses DK weight yarn. If you need a DK weight yarn for this, I can see this in Square Peg Yarn!
If you got a sweater’s worth of souvenir yarn, Calluna Pullover by Angela Hahn is a pretty way to show it off. It’s made with fingering weight yarn, and sells for $7. The texture going on in the yoke is so pretty!
I love this hat called Besprinkled Hat by Abbyeknits, costing $5.50 on Ravelry. Looks like a fun stitch that uses DK weight yarn.
Pairing a variegated yarn with a solid is a good way to tone down variegated yarns. Midtown Magic by Baah Yarn, free on Ravelry, does a good job of this.
This is one that uses worsted weight yarn! It’s Picot de Gallo by Chic and Regal Knits that sells for $4.75. For a different look, I think Echoes Worsted by Gusto would be fun, as it is a slow changing color yarn.
Kris and I did an excursion of a rainforest hike in Alaska. I’m planning on using one of my souvenir yarns to knit Raindrops in Spring by Dutch Knitting Design. It sells for $7 on Ravelry. I’ve had it in my favorites for a very long time, but this will be perfect. The yarn is green, and will represent the rainforest perfectly.
I hope you find the perfect pattern for your beautiful souvenirs. They deserve only the best!
