Kris' Corner

I just read Hilde’s Corner from last week’s newsletter and decided I would continue on with a Part 2 of her theme of warm-weather knitting. In case you don’t know, customers occasionally confuse the two of us at the shop, so we like to refer to ourselves as “The Twins”. So I’m thinking that it is appropriate for me to jump on board with her article theme since twins tend to think alike:)

Short-sleeved light-weight sweaters are so nice in the spring and summer, and I actually think I enjoy knitting them more than long-sleeved sweaters. Perhaps this is because it is a quicker knit. Also, my body temp tends to run on the warm side, so lighter yarns feel good on my skin.

I have a couple of favorite sweaters I have made that I want to highlight in this article, as well as a new one I’m ready to start.

Anker’s Summer Shirt” is a great short-sleeved knit and one of my favorites. It is knit from top down and the yoke is worked in sections of ribbing. These sections are not only fun to knit but really show off the yarn. I chose a striped linen variegated yarn but a solid color would also look great. Some DK yarn suggestions are Zooey by Juniper Moon Farm or Bamboo Pop by Universal. The pattern is approximately $8.22 on Ravelry.

Since I’m piggybacking on Hilde’s article, I think it’s a good idea to include a summer cardigan that Hilde and I knit together in our own little KAL. We used the same pattern and yarn but in different colors. This is a perfect cardigan with ¾ sleeves to throw on over a sundress or t-shirt. I particularly like the lace bottom. The pattern is called, “Ostinato” and is by Fogbound Knits. It is $7.00 on Ravelry. We used United yarn by Queensland. I chose a blue, and Hilde chose a green but I really want to make this again with one of the new colors that United has recently released.

Lastly, I want to share a sweater I recently found on Ravelry that I’m excited to cast on. It’s called “Cloudbreak Tee” and is by Wool & Pine. I love that it’s seamless and cropped with a fun lacy scalloped hem. I already picked out my yarn the other day, Square Peg DK called Peach Pie. I love the soft peach hues. This yarn is from the Square Peg Yarns tea series based on our Apolis Craft Teas that we carry in the shop.

Happy Knitting!

Karen Chemo Cap 5th Anniversary Makeover

I had someone ask me about the Karen Chemo Cap Fan Stitch and I decided the video and pattern were both in need of a make-over! Especially when I noticed this year is the 5th anniversary of publishing this pattern. When my mom had chemo I made her a few different hats because honestly it felt like the only thing I could do. I designed this one just for her, and was super excited when it was her favorite! After she passed I wasn't sure I wanted to release the design, but with a little time...it felt like the right thing to do! You can download the pattern for free here (please give it a favorite over on Ravelry so that it gets a little Ravelry love!!!):  Ravelry: Karen Chemo Cap pattern by A Little Knitty Designs You can purchase the yarn we used here:  Cumulus by Juniper Moon Farm (alittleknitty.com) Here is the video if you need help with the fan stitch!

Chemo Caps - Part 2

The Gia Chemo Cap doesn't have the same sort of story behind it as the Karen Cap , but it was developed with Chemo patients in mind! Please share this pattern with anyone who would like to knit a hat for someone in need! You can download your pattern here: http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/gia-chemo-cap

This eliminates the purl stitches looking a little funky (if you know, you know).  We decreased by 25% of the stitches about halfway through the cowl to allow the top of the cowl to be a little closer to the neck and the bottom spread over your shoulders if you want to wear it that way! We gave you little check boxes to check off as you complete repeats. **PATTERN** Using Main Color, CO92, place stitch marker and join in the round Round 1: (K2, P2) Repeat parentheses all the way around Repeat Round 1 six more times       ⃞          ⃞...
