Kris' Corner - Stockings

Christmas is just around the corner and I've been thinking a lot about stockings.

Every year I make a different one for my collection.  My husband is convinced our whole house will be consumed with Christmas stockings one day but I'm ok with that because I love making them. Just like opening doors on an Advent calendar I enjoy the days leading up to Christmas as I work row after row.  You could say it's like kids anticipating opening up their Christmas stockings on Christmas morning......well maybe not to that level of excitement but pretty close.
There are many wonderful knit and crochet patterns out there but here are a few that really got my attention:

Since we technically are still in Fall, I will start with "Falloween Stocking" by bunnymuff-Mona Zilah.  This stocking looks like a page out of a beautifully illustrated book or an intricately stitched tapestry you would see hung on a castle wall.  Some of the variations of the stocking reveal duplicate stitches and embroidery that was added after knitting the stocking. Obviously this isn't a quick project but what a beautiful heirloom.  The patterns include different scenes and motifs that are truly stunning.  The pattern is available for $8.99 on Ravelry.  It calls for fingering weight yarn and Heritage would be a perfect choice.

The next stocking happens to be the one I am currently knitting.  It is by Arnie & Carlos and is called "
Dompap", which means "Bullfinch".  I love this stocking, not only because of the bird images but also the traditional scandinavian feel in its design and colors. You can view it on Ravelry but you need to go to Arniecarlos.com to purchase it or one of their other beautiful stocking patterns or knit Christmas balls patterns for the tree.  I am using Ciao and think it is a perfect yarn pairing for this stocking!!

I know this is an article on Christmas stockings but I'm throwing in a sock pattern which technically is a Christmas stocking.  This one is called "Christmas Chaos Socks" and is by Barbara Cegledi.  These adorable socks have Christmas cookie images covering them including sweet gingerbread men.  It is a free pattern on Ravelry and calls for fingering weight.  Heritage would be perfect since it comes in such a wide range of "gingerbread" shades of brown.

If you are a crocheter check out the "Evergreen Mosaic Stocking" by Jamie STGeorge.  The simple evergreens against a white background are lovely.  The designer uses overlay mosaic crochet work that is beautiful.  The pattern is $2.99 on Ravelry.  Yarn Citizen Harmony would be a nice yarn for this project.

"Hexagon Granny Stocking" is another fun crocheted stocking.  It is by Briana K Designs and is made up of individually crocheted hexagons.  This is a nicely detailed pattern with lots of guidance on crocheting the hexagons as well as putting them together and finishing it. It is $7.70 on Ravelry and calls for worsted weight yarn.  Deluxe worsted, Deluxe Worsted Superwash or Deluxe Worsted Superwash Tweed would be a good match for this pattern.

I hope I have inspired some of you to try knitting or crocheting a Christmas stocking this season!

Karen Chemo Cap 5th Anniversary Makeover

I had someone ask me about the Karen Chemo Cap Fan Stitch and I decided the video and pattern were both in need of a make-over! Especially when I noticed this year is the 5th anniversary of publishing this pattern. When my mom had chemo I made her a few different hats because honestly it felt like the only thing I could do. I designed this one just for her, and was super excited when it was her favorite! After she passed I wasn't sure I wanted to release the design, but with a little time...it felt like the right thing to do! You can download the pattern for free here (please give it a favorite over on Ravelry so that it gets a little Ravelry love!!!):  Ravelry: Karen Chemo Cap pattern by A Little Knitty Designs You can purchase the yarn we used here:  Cumulus by Juniper Moon Farm (alittleknitty.com) Here is the video if you need help with the fan stitch!

Chemo Caps - Part 2

The Gia Chemo Cap doesn't have the same sort of story behind it as the Karen Cap , but it was developed with Chemo patients in mind! Please share this pattern with anyone who would like to knit a hat for someone in need! You can download your pattern here: http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/gia-chemo-cap

Free Pattern - Moose Mountain Cowl

This eliminates the purl stitches looking a little funky (if you know, you know).  We decreased by 25% of the stitches about halfway through the cowl to allow the top of the cowl to be a little closer to the neck and the bottom spread over your shoulders if you want to wear it that way! We gave you little check boxes to check off as you complete repeats. **PATTERN** Using Main Color, CO92, place stitch marker and join in the round Round 1: (K2, P2) Repeat parentheses all the way around Repeat Round 1 six more times       ⃞          ⃞...
