Kris' Corner - Koigu is a new welcome addition

Some new yarn has recently arrived in the shop and I am super excited about it and decided to highlight it in my article this week.

It is a Canadian yarn called Koigu, a beautiful self-striping sock yarn.  The colors really got my attention but also the creative cute packaging. We are carrying two different sets and they are both adorable.

The first one is packaged in a fun mini crate with a burlap bow that holds two mini skeins, each identical to the other, so you can knit 2 perfectly matching striped socks.  Of course this would make a sweet gift but why not a gift for you!  I bought one for myself because it made me want to start knitting a pair of socks and see the colors play out.

The second set is 5, 25g,
mini self-striping skeins, packaged in a cute little paint can.  This set makes me dream of not only making socks but also a cowl or a shawl that will show off the beautiful gradation of colors from one mini skein to the next.  Both of these sets come in a variety of striped colors.

The only thing I like better than finding new pretty yarn is pattern ideas to help me decide how I’m going to use it. Koigu not only produces yarn but also has some patterns to show off these lovely minis. I love that there is a QR code on the paint can that instantly connects you to a site with some of these patterns.  Here are a few of the patterns that caught my eye.

“Frog Socks” by Koigu Team is available on Ravelry.  It is a basic sock pattern that uses the paint can mini skeins and the colors really pop over the stripes.  I think anyone could rock these socks with shorts!

Another good sock pattern is “Rose City Rollers” by Mara Catherine Bryner.  This one isn’t by Koigu but would work beautifully with this yarn.  These are easy roll top ankle socks, perfect for summer knitting and wearing.  This pattern is free on Ravelry.

“Ocean Waves Cowl” is another great summer project.  It is a Koigu pattern by Janice Sumpton and is free on Ravelry.  It also shows off the self-striping colors and is lightweight not bulky.  I think it would be cute over a t-
shirt during these warmer months without being hot and clingy.

So next time you are in the shop check these sets out.  I bet they won’t disappoint.

Karen Chemo Cap 5th Anniversary Makeover

I had someone ask me about the Karen Chemo Cap Fan Stitch and I decided the video and pattern were both in need of a make-over! Especially when I noticed this year is the 5th anniversary of publishing this pattern. When my mom had chemo I made her a few different hats because honestly it felt like the only thing I could do. I designed this one just for her, and was super excited when it was her favorite! After she passed I wasn't sure I wanted to release the design, but with a little time...it felt like the right thing to do! You can download the pattern for free here (please give it a favorite over on Ravelry so that it gets a little Ravelry love!!!):  Ravelry: Karen Chemo Cap pattern by A Little Knitty Designs You can purchase the yarn we used here:  Cumulus by Juniper Moon Farm (alittleknitty.com) Here is the video if you need help with the fan stitch!

Chemo Caps - Part 2

The Gia Chemo Cap doesn't have the same sort of story behind it as the Karen Cap , but it was developed with Chemo patients in mind! Please share this pattern with anyone who would like to knit a hat for someone in need! You can download your pattern here: http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/gia-chemo-cap

Copilot Remix

Years ago I found the Copilot Cowl by Dominique Trad on Ravelry  and it had two of my ABSOLUTE favorite things...garter stitch and yarn overs! I cast one on for a trip I was taking and knit it while I was traveling. It was the perfect project to keep my attention, but I didn't need to take the pattern out constantly. After knitting one, I noticed that the length of it was just too long for my liking, I wanted it to be a simple, single-wrap cowl. I reworked it a little bit and it is my go-to when I have a skein of fingering weight yarn (especially if it is a singly-ply!!) Copilot Remix Materials:     1 skein 100g/440 fingering weight yarn (if your skein is a little more or a little less, no problem, I put in weights so you can use up all your yarn and not play yarn chicken!)                      US6/4mm 24" circular knitting needles                      Stitch...
