"From Sheep to Shawl"
Saturday, November 5, 2022: 10am-4pm at Worthington Park Quilcene
Please join us and make history in Worthington Park Quilcene for the First Annual Fiber Festival: From Sheep to Shawl.
“The Quilcene Historical Museum is excited to partner with Fiber and Clay in hosting our first fiber festival – celebrating the extraordinarily diverse talents in our region. We will for the first time utilize every aspect of Worthington Park – the newly restored Victorian mansion, museum, outdoor theatre, historic barn and ten beautiful acres. There will truly be something here for everyone. Come explore!” shares Brian Cullin, Quilcene Historical Museum
In the Park:
See sheep shearing at the foot of the historic 1915 barn, alpacas on leads in the meadow, and a wonderful wool waulking performance and demonstration of an old Gaelic tradition of fulling woven cloth.
Visit farm vendors and learn wool processing, fleece cleaning, carding, spinning and dyeing. Enjoy weaving songs from wandering Scottish fiddler, Derek Stallman in a garden setting, near the serene Hamilton Pond. And, warm up with heating stations and enjoy creative delicious festival delights served up by A&H Curbside Grill!
In the Museum:
Make History – take part in weaving a community rug on a large loom, and more! We’ll teach Wet Felting, Knitting, Crochet, and Weaving and provide plenty of information from local Guilds and Spinning Wheel Makers.
Learn more about Native American spinning and weaving traditions and history. Experience wool fleece, see how wool is processed, and how the use of natural fibers support the environment.
In the Mansion:
There will be raffles, traditional music, Weaving, Knitting, Crochet, Large Walking Spinning on an 1860 Wheel and Locker Hooking demonstrations.
And for your holiday and winter gifts, we’ve invited many roving vendors and local shops who will be selling Hand Knit, Crochet, Woven, and Felted items. As well as, Hand Dyed and Hand Spun Yarn, Wooden Tools, and Yarn Bowls.
Lise Solvang of Fiber and Clay adds, “The Quilcene Fiber Festival will be an Experience for All. It will take you back in time, and bring you home to today. From an 1800’s walking spinning wheel to today’s e-spinner, created locally. From a beautiful Gaelic tradition of Wool Waulking with song and cloth fulling to felting your own dryer balls. See a sheep being shorn, learn to knit, weave and felt, visit with local hand dyers, spinners, knitters and their beautiful wares. Come curious and leave inspired.”
