Chemo Caps - Part 1

Today I'm introducing two (ok, just one...the other needed more tweaks) free knitting patterns to my collection on Ravelry and I would love for them to be used to make hats for chemo patients.

The Karen Cap was created last year for my mom, as she started her battle with rain Cancer. One year nd 7 days ago doctors found a tumor in my mom's brain and it started a short lived battle that ended in her passing away 5 months later.

During her battle I knit her 3 hats, but her favorite by far was this one, so I named it after her. In fact the last day I saw her we took a photo together and she was wearing this hat.

All this to say, this hat is very special to me and I hope that it is shared with people who can use it!

This hat was knit with CoBaSi Plus which I highly recommend for a beautiful breathable but soft hat! You can pick up the yarn in store or online.

    1. I had this same question but I came across the pattern on Ravelry and this was her answer on there: Hi there!

Normally when you make a knit stitch you wrap the yarn just once (I’m an English Knitter, so I throw…if you pick you just pick once) For this stitch I want you to wrap it 3 times. So go into the stitch as if to knit, wrap the right needle 3 times then finish the stitch. It will look like you tripled the stitch count, but you will let go of the extra loops on the next round. Please let me know if you have ANY other questions….I’m happy to help!!!

    3. Hi Donna Deskin. Hoping you can help me. I understand the wrap it 3 times but the next row confuses me. Row 2. Do you unwrap the triple wraps so there is only one? It says slip stitches from lh to rh needle. Bring working yarn to the fron of your work. slip the 5 stitches from the rh to the lh needle? This isn't the same 5 stitiches is it? It is the next set of 5 right? I guess you turn your work and that is why you ar going from lh to rh and then rh to lh???? Please help me. Lol

Karen Chemo Cap 5th Anniversary Makeover

I had someone ask me about the Karen Chemo Cap Fan Stitch and I decided the video and pattern were both in need of a make-over! Especially when I noticed this year is the 5th anniversary of publishing this pattern. When my mom had chemo I made her a few different hats because honestly it felt like the only thing I could do. I designed this one just for her, and was super excited when it was her favorite! After she passed I wasn't sure I wanted to release the design, but with a little time...it felt like the right thing to do! You can download the pattern for free here (please give it a favorite over on Ravelry so that it gets a little Ravelry love!!!):  Ravelry: Karen Chemo Cap pattern by A Little Knitty Designs You can purchase the yarn we used here:  Cumulus by Juniper Moon Farm (alittleknitty.com) Here is the video if you need help with the fan stitch!

Chemo Caps - Part 2

The Gia Chemo Cap doesn't have the same sort of story behind it as the Karen Cap , but it was developed with Chemo patients in mind! Please share this pattern with anyone who would like to knit a hat for someone in need! You can download your pattern here: http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/gia-chemo-cap
