Kris' Corner - Road Trip Projects

Summer is here and school is out and lots of us are thinking about taking a road trip. So what to knit or crochet on the adventure ahead? We don’t want something too big because of space and we don’t want something hot on our laps. We also don’t want something so involved and complicated that we can’t quickly set it aside for an activity or pitstop. Here are a few project ideas using two of my favorite yarns at A Little Knitty: Ricorumi and Ciao.

First is Ricorumi cotton yarn that come in a variety of colors, some are even sparkled. They are ideal for the road since they are small and very packable. This yarn would be perfect to make “Amigurumi Tik Tok Bee” by Crafting Happiness. These smiling bees are so so cute and you can crochet them in different sizes and make a bee family! The pattern is available for about $3.42 on Ravelry.

Another one that caught my eye is “Fast Food Set” by Joyce Overhaul. How perfect is this to make on a road trip with the hot dog, hamburger, pizza and tacos. This would be another fun crochet project using Ricorumi’s bright colored yarns for the lettuce tomatoes and cheese! The pattern collection is $9.99 on Ravelry. This may seem pricey but it includes: the hamburger, bagel with cream cheese, large and small taco, hotdog and pizza slice.

For the knitters I’m highlighting Ciao superwash. It also comes in a rainbow of colors and in convenient 50g balls. “Bappity Baby Hat” by Marianna Mel caught my eye. It's a quick and easy knit that would make a nice gift for the new baby. You can make it solid or striped and add a pom pom or bow accent. It would be an eye catcher in Ciao’s bright colors! This is a free pattern.

Last pattern is a Christmas cowl called, “Winter Wonderland Cowl” by Cheryl Laventar. I know its only summer but July is next week and this is a great “Christmas in July” project. In the “Projects” pictures for this pattern on Ravelry, someone used Ciao red(014), green(011) and white(002). I love this combination together. It is $3 on Ravelry.

Hope this makes your yarn packing easy as you hit the road! Happy Travels!

Karen Chemo Cap 5th Anniversary Makeover

I had someone ask me about the Karen Chemo Cap Fan Stitch and I decided the video and pattern were both in need of a make-over! Especially when I noticed this year is the 5th anniversary of publishing this pattern. When my mom had chemo I made her a few different hats because honestly it felt like the only thing I could do. I designed this one just for her, and was super excited when it was her favorite! After she passed I wasn't sure I wanted to release the design, but with a little time...it felt like the right thing to do! You can download the pattern for free here (please give it a favorite over on Ravelry so that it gets a little Ravelry love!!!):  Ravelry: Karen Chemo Cap pattern by A Little Knitty Designs You can purchase the yarn we used here:  Cumulus by Juniper Moon Farm (alittleknitty.com) Here is the video if you need help with the fan stitch!

Chemo Caps - Part 2

The Gia Chemo Cap doesn't have the same sort of story behind it as the Karen Cap , but it was developed with Chemo patients in mind! Please share this pattern with anyone who would like to knit a hat for someone in need! You can download your pattern here: http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/gia-chemo-cap

Copilot Remix

Years ago I found the Copilot Cowl by Dominique Trad on Ravelry  and it had two of my ABSOLUTE favorite things...garter stitch and yarn overs! I cast one on for a trip I was taking and knit it while I was traveling. It was the perfect project to keep my attention, but I didn't need to take the pattern out constantly. After knitting one, I noticed that the length of it was just too long for my liking, I wanted it to be a simple, single-wrap cowl. I reworked it a little bit and it is my go-to when I have a skein of fingering weight yarn (especially if it is a singly-ply!!) Copilot Remix Materials:     1 skein 100g/440 fingering weight yarn (if your skein is a little more or a little less, no problem, I put in weights so you can use up all your yarn and not play yarn chicken!)                      US6/4mm 24" circular knitting needles                      Stitch...
