HAPPY NEW YEAR to all A Little Knitty friends! May 2024 treat you well with lots of yarny type goodies and projects. Have you made any yarn related resolutions this year? I think this is a good time of year to resolve to learn something new or try something new to move forward in your chosen craft. As fiber artists, we never stop learning. Even if we’ve done something for decades, there is always something new to try or learn. As I write this, I think my yarny resolution is twofold. You are all my witnesses as I resolve this year to
1) learn a new technique
2) knit with a yarn I have never tried before.

I don’t yet know what the new technique will be, but as for a new yarn, that will be easier as Jen is always bringing new yarns into the shop. There are even some that have been in the shop a while I have yet to try!

I am determined this year to knit with Queensland Kathmandu fingering. This one catches my eye every time I pass it by in the shop. I am torn with wanting to knit a sweater or a shawl.

The shawl I am thinking of is Self-Acceptance by Kristina Vilimaite for $5.50 on Ravelry. I love its simplicity while still looking cozy. It’s in my favorite shawl shape, an asymmetrical triangle. I find these the easiest to wear.

The newer yarn to the shop that is calling out to me is Jody Long’s Alba Aran. I love the vibrant colors and the tweed look it has. This hat, In Sync by Dani Gherardi, might be a great choice to try out this yarn. It sells for $6 on Ravelry.

I came across this cute pattern for a small little knitted pouch. (Would this count as a new technique? Probably not! But a pouch is something I have never knit before, though that is not my yarny resolution) It’s BAGGU Pouch pattern by Beatrice Mase. It sells for about $5.73 on Ravelry and uses fingering weight yarn. This would be a cute one to try Queensland’s Shetland Light! Another yarn I’ve been wanting to try. Or Ewe Ewe Fluffy Fingering! Oo - tough to choose which one.

Now I have to decide which project to try first!

Good luck with your own yarny resolutions. May you grow in your craft as the year progresses.

Karen Chemo Cap 5th Anniversary Makeover

I had someone ask me about the Karen Chemo Cap Fan Stitch and I decided the video and pattern were both in need of a make-over! Especially when I noticed this year is the 5th anniversary of publishing this pattern. When my mom had chemo I made her a few different hats because honestly it felt like the only thing I could do. I designed this one just for her, and was super excited when it was her favorite! After she passed I wasn't sure I wanted to release the design, but with a little time...it felt like the right thing to do! You can download the pattern for free here (please give it a favorite over on Ravelry so that it gets a little Ravelry love!!!):  Ravelry: Karen Chemo Cap pattern by A Little Knitty Designs You can purchase the yarn we used here:  Cumulus by Juniper Moon Farm (alittleknitty.com) Here is the video if you need help with the fan stitch!

Chemo Caps - Part 2

The Gia Chemo Cap doesn't have the same sort of story behind it as the Karen Cap , but it was developed with Chemo patients in mind! Please share this pattern with anyone who would like to knit a hat for someone in need! You can download your pattern here: http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/gia-chemo-cap
