Kris' Corner

I just read Hilde’s Corner from last week’s newsletter and decided I would continue on with a Part 2 of her theme of warm-weather knitting. In case you don’t know, customers occasionally confuse the two of us at the shop, so we like to refer to ourselves as “The Twins”. So I’m thinking that it is appropriate for me to jump on board with her article theme since twins tend to think alike:) Short-sleeved light-weight sweaters are so nice in the spring and summer, and I actually think I enjoy knitting them more than long-sleeved sweaters. Perhaps this is because it is a quicker knit. Also, my body temp tends to run on the warm side, so lighter yarns feel good on my skin. I have a couple of favorite sweaters I have made that I want to highlight in this article, as well as a new one I’m ready to start. “ Anker’s Summer Shirt ” is a great short-sleeved knit and one of my favorites. It is knit from top down and the yoke is worked in sections of ribbing. These sections are not only fun to kn...

Hilde's Corner

Warm weather is just around the corner! We’ve had a taste of some warm days already, so we know more is on the way. Personally, I kinda hate to see the cool days leave us, as it means putting away the warm woolen things I love to wear. But we can still create lovely cooler items for the summer! We brought in Trill by Urth , a fingering-weight yarn made of a wool and linen blend. I love the rich, jewel-like colors. It would be great for tees and tanks for layering . Haiku by Knitting For Breakfast sells for about $6 on Ravelry and would be amazing knit up in Trill. I love the lace at the top.  Or Right As Rain by Jamie Hoffman that sells for $10 on Ravelry, with it’s sweet line of lace down the center. I’ve just finished a cardigan using Jody Long’s Satiny yarn , a 100% cotton DK-weight yarn. I used it to make Black Barlow by Marie Amelie Designs, a FREE pattern on Ravelry, but I made my sleeves a bit shorter. It’s perfect for layering when mornings or evenings are still a bit...

April 2026 FB Winners

Congratulations to our winners! It is really fun to see what you guys finish each month...AND what kinda trends I see. Melt the ice hats are still hot, I spied a lot of dinosaurs this month, gorgeous sweaters and cute socks! Great work everyone!!!!! Bonz is modeling The Gradual Beginner Shawl DK by Cesium Yarn LLC, a free pattern off of Ravelry. I had a request from a 7-year old for something rainbow and the mom suggested making something that she could wrap around. This was a great first shawl. I’ve already started a second shawl with a different color cuz there is a 5-year old sister.

The yuckie side of AI

For quite some time I have been seeing stories on the internet about a crochet pattern that is completely AI (meaning that pattern will NEVER make anything near what the photo looks like), but recently, I'm hearing more horror stories in the shop!! AI can be a great tool in some industries, but when it comes to creative I just can't get on board. Designing a knitting pattern is more than just using abbreviated terms. There is so much testing and pivoting and making sure everything lays just right. It's about trying different ways to get texture and figuring out which way will be easiest for the end user. Hundreds of hours are poured into patterns that you enjoy...and it just can't be replicated with AI.  I have chatted with a few customers who are teaching themselves how to knit and looking up terms through AI. I would just like to put my two cents, that sometimes the AI returns just aren't correct or they are close to correct but not quite there. I would highly rec...
