Kris' Corner - Who Doesn't Like the Sophie Scarf?!?

Just like so many of you, I love the Sophie Scarf!

What a fun, cute, easy project that comes together quickly and looks great when it’s done. Being able to adjust the size and length is also a huge plus. I also love the fact that it’s such a portable take-anywhere project. We have had so many customers trying different yarns and showing off their finished scarves and it has been so inspiring to see the results. I especially like the way different yarns and colors play out in the same pattern.

As I l was looking on Ravelry’s “Hot List” I was amazed at how many mini scarves were popping up with a lot of similarities to the Sophie Scarf. I found lots of patterns that play off of this cute scarf but in new creative ways.

Here are a few of those patterns that caught my eye:

First up is the “Rathlin Island Shawl” by Brenda Brayfield (online only). Its long crescent shape is similar to the Sophie Scarf but there are added details that I really liked. Brayfield incorporates Slip stitch lines that begin and end with a popcorn puff. This cascading effect down the scarp is super cute. This pattern is about $6.15 on Ravelry and would work up beautifully in a light color of Heritage

Next up is “Dew Drops Scarf” by Lisa Hannes. This one is also worked from tip to tip but with an elongated diamond shape that adds an airy lacey feeling to the scarf. This pattern is about $7.87 on Ravelry and comes with written instructions as well as charts. You could get this gorgeous halo effect using Lapin from Queensland Collection

Third is “Star Jasmine Mini Scarf” by Ksenia Naidyon. This also is worked tip to tip but with a built in i-cord edging. The pattern offers specifics for two different sizes. I adore this sweet jasmine flower pattern. It is described as “an elegant and classy scarf like the aroma of star jasmine flowers.” Doesn’t that make you long for full blown Spring to arrive!!! This pattern would look stunning with Grey Drizzle Fibers fingering weight we have in stock (sorry, this one isn't online)

Last is ”Spring Thaw Shawlette” by Loop Designs. This is larger than the Sophie Scart but not as big as a regular sized shawl. The perfect size to throw across your shoulders for a bit of warmth on a cool evening. This is a great one-skein project with some easy drop-stitch lace and a whole lot of relaxing garter stitch. This piece would be stunning in one of the variegated locally dyed yarns such as Teal Torch Knits or our house label Square Peg Yarns. The pattern is $6.00 on Ravelry.

Whether or not you have actually made the Sophie Scarf doesn’t matter with these standalone patterns. I’m anxious to cast one on as I say goodbye to Winter and anticipate a warm Spring.

Karen Chemo Cap 5th Anniversary Makeover

I had someone ask me about the Karen Chemo Cap Fan Stitch and I decided the video and pattern were both in need of a make-over! Especially when I noticed this year is the 5th anniversary of publishing this pattern. When my mom had chemo I made her a few different hats because honestly it felt like the only thing I could do. I designed this one just for her, and was super excited when it was her favorite! After she passed I wasn't sure I wanted to release the design, but with a little time...it felt like the right thing to do! You can download the pattern for free here (please give it a favorite over on Ravelry so that it gets a little Ravelry love!!!):  Ravelry: Karen Chemo Cap pattern by A Little Knitty Designs You can purchase the yarn we used here:  Cumulus by Juniper Moon Farm (alittleknitty.com) Here is the video if you need help with the fan stitch!

Chemo Caps - Part 2

The Gia Chemo Cap doesn't have the same sort of story behind it as the Karen Cap , but it was developed with Chemo patients in mind! Please share this pattern with anyone who would like to knit a hat for someone in need! You can download your pattern here: http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/gia-chemo-cap

This eliminates the purl stitches looking a little funky (if you know, you know).  We decreased by 25% of the stitches about halfway through the cowl to allow the top of the cowl to be a little closer to the neck and the bottom spread over your shoulders if you want to wear it that way! We gave you little check boxes to check off as you complete repeats. **PATTERN** Using Main Color, CO92, place stitch marker and join in the round Round 1: (K2, P2) Repeat parentheses all the way around Repeat Round 1 six more times       ⃞          ⃞...
