Hilde's Corner

Hello from Minnesota! I flew out here to be with my mom and brother. It was still quite cold when I got here, -2 degrees as a high, but the sun was out and the sky was blue. Mom was dog sitting so it was good for me to be here to help her with that as well as other things.

It was so good to see my brother, too. We've both been blown away by the support shown by so many of you. He has been able to continually help a couple of families he knows with grocery shopping, rent, and bills with money you already gave and continue to so generously donate. Without knowing how long things will continue, he hopes to use the funds already provided, as well as those that keep coming in, to continue to help in the coming months as well. He continues to donate on a weekly basis to a few other organizations that he trusts, so if you want to continue to donate to him or those groups directly, that is always appreciated!

You may also want to donate to places near you as help is needed nationwide.
Some of the places that he is donating to in Minneapolis are as follows:
DONATE | Source MN, Inc.
Second Harvest Heartland Donation Form - Second Harvest Heartland

He is also using this site to find ways to volunteer and donate
These Minnesota mutual aid groups need help against ICE | Advocate.com

The temperatures here have warmed up to a balmy 20 degrees F (from -2F to 20F is the same difference as 32F to 54F so you can really feel the difference!), so Mom and I took a walk this morning in the very pleasant sunshine and blue skies and enjoyed the beautiful weather. It feels like a heatwave over here!
I've also kept my knitting close at hand and finished a Melt the ICE hat for my brother, using Juniper Moon's Herriot and began another Caramel Latte Beanie for myself using Yarn Citizen's Harmony DK. (The first one I made went to my daughter!) Hats are the perfect travelling project, I think.

Thank you again for all of you who have donated and supported Minneapolis and my brother. Many of you have told me to give him a hug and he wants you to know he wishes he could give each of you a hug in return.

Karen Chemo Cap 5th Anniversary Makeover

I had someone ask me about the Karen Chemo Cap Fan Stitch and I decided the video and pattern were both in need of a make-over! Especially when I noticed this year is the 5th anniversary of publishing this pattern. When my mom had chemo I made her a few different hats because honestly it felt like the only thing I could do. I designed this one just for her, and was super excited when it was her favorite! After she passed I wasn't sure I wanted to release the design, but with a little time...it felt like the right thing to do! You can download the pattern for free here (please give it a favorite over on Ravelry so that it gets a little Ravelry love!!!):  Ravelry: Karen Chemo Cap pattern by A Little Knitty Designs You can purchase the yarn we used here:  Cumulus by Juniper Moon Farm (alittleknitty.com) Here is the video if you need help with the fan stitch!

Chemo Caps - Part 2

The Gia Chemo Cap doesn't have the same sort of story behind it as the Karen Cap , but it was developed with Chemo patients in mind! Please share this pattern with anyone who would like to knit a hat for someone in need! You can download your pattern here: http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/gia-chemo-cap

This eliminates the purl stitches looking a little funky (if you know, you know).  We decreased by 25% of the stitches about halfway through the cowl to allow the top of the cowl to be a little closer to the neck and the bottom spread over your shoulders if you want to wear it that way! We gave you little check boxes to check off as you complete repeats. **PATTERN** Using Main Color, CO92, place stitch marker and join in the round Round 1: (K2, P2) Repeat parentheses all the way around Repeat Round 1 six more times       ⃞          ⃞...
