So...funny story I stumbled upon this new vendor called Woolbuddy. I fell in love with their beautiful kits and natural felting mats...I knew I must bring them into the shop. And when my eyes fell upon CAT TOYS just a couple days after adopting our new baby kitty...well, it was meant to be. Imagine my surprise when I realized the "cat toy kit" was actually finished cat toys!!!! But the price was SOOOOOOOO good I thought there is no way these could be finished sets.  But they are!!! They are the most adorable, beautifully made cat toys!!  So ya, we have some new kits in the shop...and cat toys (totally normal!!!) When we announced that we would be moving to Milton, we heard time and time again that we MUST try the Frying Dutchman. So last week Kris wandered over to City Hall on Tuesday to do a little "research". The plan was to take photos of our fish haul...but we ate it all and went WHOOPS...we just have to go back another day. I was going to draw you a picture...but I draw VERY poorly!!! So just imagine the best (not greasy at all) fried fish and chips and some blackened fish tacos. The blackened fish tacos were not only INSANELY yummy, but they were perfectly swaddled for optimum no-drip eating.  It was seriously love at first bite for both of us.  Kris will be sent on more "research" trips on Tuesday...you might see her there!!!! I have been a little obsessed with the Hoodola pattern by Laura Nelkin...and at the same time Kris was noticing more talk of hooded things around the shop...so of course we both wanted to chat about them!!!! First of all, the pattern that started my obsession!! Hoodola is not only a well written pattern, but has great video support. This would be great with locally dyed DK yarn, Yarn Citizen Harmony DK, Malabrigo Rios (ya, rios is worsted, but I think it would work just dandy!). We are bringing in Kathmandu DK in a couple weeks and that yarn would ROCK in this pattern!!!! The whole ALK team went OOOH when this next pattern came up in the search... This is  My Jose Hood by Norgard Knitter  and would be ideal in  Cozy Alpaca . The pattern is about $8 on Ravelry. Pretty sure this will be cast onto my needles by the time you read the newsletter! :) Have you been bitten by the hooded scarf/cowl trend???

Hat + Scarf =??? We have had quite a few icy cold mornings this month and not much rain.  I’m loving the sunshine but, like you, I’m trying to stay warm.  What a perfect time to pull out your favorite handmade fiber garments or start a new one.  Sweaters, hats, scarves, mittens...you name it. A Little Knitting has so many beautiful yarns in so many colors.  I sometimes feel like I work in a candy shop! As I think about all the possible new projects I could start, I’m particularly drawn to a new trend that has been buzzing among our staff and customers, the Hooded Scarf or Balaclava.  This combo of hat and scarf is the perfect option to snuggle you up in warmth.  Here are some knitting and crochet patterns I found that I want to share with you.   First up is the “Sophie Hood” by Petiteknit.   It is worked in one piece from tip to tip.  I love the long tips on either end that you can tie up or leave hanging loose.  The pattern calls f...

We just received ALLL the new colors of Zooey!! We LOVE this yarn for summer tops, I used it to knit the Anker Summer Shirt and I wear it SO much during the summer!! As we grow, we sometimes need to make and implement new policies. We know, no one loves rules...but they will allow us to keep doing what we do so you can keep doing what you do!!  Class Purchases... Back in the day...when I was in my 30's...I could be teaching a class, grab you a US7 needle and actually remember to charge you for it before you left. We also had like 5 customers a month. We will still encourage you to get ANYTHING you like during a class or Sit-n-Stitch, but we ask that you please bring it up to the counter and let us scan it so we can add it to your tab. You don't need to settle up until the end of the day...it just makes sure we don't forget. I don't think anyone EVER intended to go home with unpaid merchandise, but I forgot to charge some people and the staff at the front desk didn't know. Happy New year, Everyone!  I am rather surprised how quickly the new year is speeding along - I remember last January felt like it took forever to get through, but not so this year! I haven’t even wished you all a happy new year yet!  What do I have on my needles currently? (Granted, I’ve got a lot of needles with projects on them, but we’ll ignore that for the moment. Anyone else have to buy needles because the ones you need are on other projects?) I am super excited about Morning Walks by Yellowcosmo - it sells for $6.50 on Ravelry. I have really wanted to try a sweater with a hood, and this hood is just so pretty!  I saw someone else’s project notes where she used the Figure 8 cast on (typically used for toe-up socks) for the hood so she didn’t have to sew the seam for it later. I have opted to do the same and it has worked out so well. I’m using Malabrigo Rios in the colorway Cereza, a beautiful rich, deep red. I’m part of a Ravelry knitting group that encouraged us...

We are sooooooo excited for our first trunk show of the year with Juni +Si AND That Crafty Little Fox!!!!
