Kris' Corner - Last Minute Summer Projects

Summer is flying by and August will arrive this week.  Even though I woke up to rain this morning, I’m counting on a few more weeks of sunshine, shorts and sandals.  As I thought about what patterns to highlight I came across some pieces that just remind me of this fleeting but delightful time of year.   First up a pattern in honor of Hilde, who is currently out of the shop vacationing in Norway with her family. This Norwegian pattern is called, “Summer With The Elves” and is by Linnea Katarina.  It has Hilde’s name all over it with a beautiful airy lace motif of leaves.  It is a sweet tank, perfect for warm summer evenings.  A great yarn for this would be Huasco Coton Kettle Dyes . The pattern is free on Ravelry. Next up, “The Seacrest Tee” by Ashley Lillis.  A group of Sit N Stitchers recently turned me on to Ashley Lillis and I found a few patterns I immediately put in my favorites file in my Ravelry account.  I really like this simple sweater resembling a boxy t-shirt.  It has a n

Olympics Knitting

The first project I'm going to chat about is the Collections Scarf by Tif Neilan This is a new pattern by Tif and you can find it for $7 on Ravelry. I am using a dark brown skein of Cozy Alpaca along with 1 ball of Tsubame from Noro   I LOVE watching how the color of the Noro yarn changes. The first part of the pattern you need to pay a bit more attention, but once you get it up to your final stitch count, it's an easy to remember repeat!! Of course you know I LOVE me some easy to remember patterns! ;) My second project is Tea House by All Knit Up Designs  (she has a sliding scale, pay what you can system...so check out the listing for the cost details!) I'm using 2 colors of fingering weight yarn. The darker green is from Juni + Si and the light green is from Nanostitch Labs. I love that this shawl is ALLLLL about local!!! I have been craving a project that is outside my normal color pallet...and this is exactly what I needed! It makes me happy and I just love how daint

Pro Tip: Buttons

When determining where to sew on a button, I place the button hole edge over the top of the button band Then I take a locking stitch marker and put it through the button hole and attach it to the fabric of the button band.  I repeat this process for every button hole, then lift the edge that has the button holes.  Now I just have to sew on the buttons at each of the marked spots and I get perfectly placed buttons every time!!

Cabo Trip

I very much enjoyed the all inclusive Mexico life!!! It was pretty much a week of reading (I NEVER have time to read just for fun), swimming, margarita drinking and so. much. food. I wasn't planning to knit (hello, it's warm there) but I even found afternoons where the breeze off the ocean (see those palm trees swaying??) and the shade of our patio just screamed for me to knit!! I brought my favorite travel project - the copilot cowl. You can find my recipe for this cowl HERE While we were at lunch, our last full day, the sky absolutely opened up and DUMPED rain. We were told it rains a total of 5 days a year in Cabo, and it seemed all 5 days of rain came in like 10 minutes. We sat and ate soggy chips while everyone ran for cover. This whole resort is ALLLLLL outside, even the lobby....so the rain really messed with everything. But we are from the PNW...it was no big deal. When the water in the restaurant was reaching my ankles, I did start to doubt my life choices! ;) As I pop

Hilde's Corner - Summer Fun

Hello Everyone! It’s been a busy time for all of us in the shop, but we are so excited about our new location and new space. It’s so fun to see old faces and meet new ones. I haven’t had much time to look up patterns so it was fun to write this Corner again, and see what new things I could find.  I was going to write this as wearables for summer and started looking up light cardigans for those chilly evenings. I found this lacey cardigan worked in a light fingering yarn called Hope Cardigan by Anne Hanssen , selling for about $6.20 on Ravelry. The pattern suggests Malabrigo Sock yarn (which we have in the shop!) but it also says it can be worked in a cotton yarn. We have Huasco Coton Kettle Dyes that would work great for this. I think this cardigan would be perfect for summer! I was not able to write this Corner all about summer wearables - I got too distracted by other fun patterns!  How many of you have been bitten by the stuffed chicken bug? How cute is this pattern for some littl
