Hilde's Corner

One of my very favorite things about working in a yarn shop is being inspired by all of you who come into the shop and show off things you are working on or have finished! Often they are patterns I have seen before, but seeing them in real life makes all the difference in wanting to make it or not. So today I’d like to share with all of you the things that some of you have inspired for me.

First and foremost, I was blown away by this project - a pattern I had never seen before and it was amazing! A crocheted toy, but wow - what a toy! It looks like a regular stuffed animal, but surprise! It’s actually a stacking toy, its body made up of rings that pull off a central post that is also crocheted! This is Hedgehog Stacking Toy by Ljuda Lisnizkaja, selling for $5.80 on Ravelry. It is so cute!!! Each little prickle is individually crocheted, too!! The details on this little guy are amazing - check out its feet! And how adorable is it that there is a wee leaf stuck on one of its prickles? I love that. It calls for sport weight yarn so I think Yarnalia’s Marvel would work nicely for this little guy. In case hedgehogs were not your thing, this designer has other stacking toys, too, like a hippo, a snail, a dinosaur, and more!

A customer was wearing this beautiful sweater and in colors that were fantastic together. Glacier by Jo Cottle sells for $8 on Ravelry. I had seen this pattern before but in very different colors. It’s made in fingering weight yarn, and picking colors for it would be so much fun! We have brought in so many colors in Cascade Heritage - they would be perfect for this beautiful pullover. Pretty sure that the next sweater I cast on will be this one! What colors would you pick for this?

Another customer was sporting this gorgeous shawl - perfect for minis!! Tailwind by Josh Ryks-Robinsky going for $7 on Ravelry. Those swooping triangles at the bottom makes this shawl so fun to wear! Rainier Roses minis would be so great for this shawl, paired with Cascade Heritage. Or a yarn that changes colors like Laines du Nord Watercolor sock paired with a solid.

Lastly, Yorlin by Kate Davies Designs walked into the shop one day. This pattern sells for about $9.43. I have often admired her designs, but honestly have never made one. A mostly simple cardigan with a bit of lacey knitting down the front panels to keep one’s interest! Again, seeing this in person made me itch to make one myself. I didn’t notice the button band until I saw it in real life, and it’s really cute! A neat way to do buttonholes. Another fingering weight yarn (wow, you guys seem to use this the most!) and I think it would be luscious in Kathmandu fingering! A really beautiful yarn that would shine in a simpler design such as this.

So please, bring in your FO’s for a bit of show and tell! We love to be inspired by YOU!

Karen Chemo Cap 5th Anniversary Makeover

I had someone ask me about the Karen Chemo Cap Fan Stitch and I decided the video and pattern were both in need of a make-over! Especially when I noticed this year is the 5th anniversary of publishing this pattern. When my mom had chemo I made her a few different hats because honestly it felt like the only thing I could do. I designed this one just for her, and was super excited when it was her favorite! After she passed I wasn't sure I wanted to release the design, but with a little time...it felt like the right thing to do! You can download the pattern for free here (please give it a favorite over on Ravelry so that it gets a little Ravelry love!!!):  Ravelry: Karen Chemo Cap pattern by A Little Knitty Designs You can purchase the yarn we used here:  Cumulus by Juniper Moon Farm (alittleknitty.com) Here is the video if you need help with the fan stitch!

Chemo Caps - Part 2

The Gia Chemo Cap doesn't have the same sort of story behind it as the Karen Cap , but it was developed with Chemo patients in mind! Please share this pattern with anyone who would like to knit a hat for someone in need! You can download your pattern here: http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/gia-chemo-cap

Copilot Remix

Years ago I found the Copilot Cowl by Dominique Trad on Ravelry  and it had two of my ABSOLUTE favorite things...garter stitch and yarn overs! I cast one on for a trip I was taking and knit it while I was traveling. It was the perfect project to keep my attention, but I didn't need to take the pattern out constantly. After knitting one, I noticed that the length of it was just too long for my liking, I wanted it to be a simple, single-wrap cowl. I reworked it a little bit and it is my go-to when I have a skein of fingering weight yarn (especially if it is a singly-ply!!) Copilot Remix Materials:     1 skein 100g/440 fingering weight yarn (if your skein is a little more or a little less, no problem, I put in weights so you can use up all your yarn and not play yarn chicken!)                      US6/4mm 24" circular knitting needles                      Stitch...
