Hilde's Corner

One of my many Works In Progress include reorganizing my yarn stash and all the tools of my craft. It’s a slow process, as you can well imagine. Sadly I need to reorganize other areas before I can get to my craft supplies, but I am trying very hard!

Naturally, during this reorganization process, I have all kinds of insanely gorgeous ideas in my head of what the finished area will look like and it occurred to me how cute it would be if I could throw in a few plants scattered here and there. But the reality is no plant could grow in my storage area because it’s too far from any windows. But wait!!! I could knit or crochet some super cute plants!! How perfect would that be for a knit/crochet area? So I had to look up what sort of patterns I could find and there are so many cute things out there!!

Most of these patterns are crocheted and made with Worsted or DK weight yarn, but you could use a different weight yarn - it would just turn out a different size, if there was a yarn that you really wanted to use. I would say an acrylic or cotton would be the best fibers for projects like these, so Uptown Worsted or Ricorumi DK would be great choices.

I love the ones with vine-like strings of drapey leaves such as String of Hearts by Sylas Cooper. This pattern is free on Ravelry.

Or even little pots of flowers such as Amigurumi Flower Pot by Ashleigh Kiser for free on Ravelry. Looks like sweet little violets.

Having a little strawberry plant would look so cheery in my craft room! Strawberry Plant With Pot by Catelin King is $4.99 on Ravelry. I could see a few of these dotted around a room.

Or perhaps succulents are more your style!

Amigurumi Flapjack Succulent by Lauren Espy is $5 on Ravelry. This designer has quite a few really cute succulent designs, so be sure to check her out!

Or how about this Cheeky Cactus by Svitlana Hurova for a good laugh! This one is $3.25 on Ravelry.

Cactus Garden by Artefacts Crochet Design (free on Ravelry!) has a few succulent plants to choose from so you can crochet a whole pot full of them!

All of the above are for crocheters. I had a hard time finding any plants that were knit, but I did find these adorable socks for any gardening enthusiasts out there. They wouldn’t decorate any craft area all that well, but they would be great decor for the feet!

Plant Lady socks by Twin Stitches Design sell for $6.57. Rainier Roses minis would be a good idea for the colorwork and Cascade Heritage as the background color. I think I need a pair!

Happy “gardening”!

Karen Chemo Cap 5th Anniversary Makeover

I had someone ask me about the Karen Chemo Cap Fan Stitch and I decided the video and pattern were both in need of a make-over! Especially when I noticed this year is the 5th anniversary of publishing this pattern. When my mom had chemo I made her a few different hats because honestly it felt like the only thing I could do. I designed this one just for her, and was super excited when it was her favorite! After she passed I wasn't sure I wanted to release the design, but with a little time...it felt like the right thing to do! You can download the pattern for free here (please give it a favorite over on Ravelry so that it gets a little Ravelry love!!!):  Ravelry: Karen Chemo Cap pattern by A Little Knitty Designs You can purchase the yarn we used here:  Cumulus by Juniper Moon Farm (alittleknitty.com) Here is the video if you need help with the fan stitch!

Chemo Caps - Part 2

The Gia Chemo Cap doesn't have the same sort of story behind it as the Karen Cap , but it was developed with Chemo patients in mind! Please share this pattern with anyone who would like to knit a hat for someone in need! You can download your pattern here: http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/gia-chemo-cap

Copilot Remix

Years ago I found the Copilot Cowl by Dominique Trad on Ravelry  and it had two of my ABSOLUTE favorite things...garter stitch and yarn overs! I cast one on for a trip I was taking and knit it while I was traveling. It was the perfect project to keep my attention, but I didn't need to take the pattern out constantly. After knitting one, I noticed that the length of it was just too long for my liking, I wanted it to be a simple, single-wrap cowl. I reworked it a little bit and it is my go-to when I have a skein of fingering weight yarn (especially if it is a singly-ply!!) Copilot Remix Materials:     1 skein 100g/440 fingering weight yarn (if your skein is a little more or a little less, no problem, I put in weights so you can use up all your yarn and not play yarn chicken!)                      US6/4mm 24" circular knitting needles                      Stitch...
