Hilde's Corner - Tiny Knits

Sometimes knitting clothes and wearable accessories gets a bit old, and when that happens to me, I love knitting soft stuffed animals. They are usually quick to knit up,  fun to watch take shape, and I love their floppy cuteness. With the holidays coming, stuffed toys might be just what you need!

I found these super easy animal toys when I needed a quick gift earlier this summer. They have no arms or legs – they're just formed by big stitches. I think little hands would love handling them since there are no floppy arms or legs to get in the way.

They are called Forest Friend Dolls by Esther Braithwaite. Esther has many other patterns all with the same idea – people dolls, animals, snowmen, and even mini versions. Some of her patterns are free (like the mini gingerbread friends or Izzy Teddy bear dolls) but the Forest Friends goes for about $5 on Ravelry. Forest Friends pattern asks for DK weight yarn, but with stuffies its nice because you can use any yarn, just making sure to use needles that are 2 sizes smaller than suggested on the yarn ball tag.

Another fun stuffie designer is Amanda Berry. She has a sweet Llama that would be a quick knit. (a perfect gift for a knitter!) Pattern is called Andy the Llama and he's free! He's knit with DK weight yarn. You can knit stuffies out of wool yarn, but I actually prefer acrylic for them. I think for DK weight yarn that these patterns call for, Babe100 would work. We have more color options with Uptown Worsted in acrylic, so I'd probably go up a yarn size and adjust my needles so I'd have more color options to choose from! Cotton also works and the mini skeins we have in the shop, Ricorumi might be a fun option.

Karen Chemo Cap 5th Anniversary Makeover

I had someone ask me about the Karen Chemo Cap Fan Stitch and I decided the video and pattern were both in need of a make-over! Especially when I noticed this year is the 5th anniversary of publishing this pattern. When my mom had chemo I made her a few different hats because honestly it felt like the only thing I could do. I designed this one just for her, and was super excited when it was her favorite! After she passed I wasn't sure I wanted to release the design, but with a little time...it felt like the right thing to do! You can download the pattern for free here (please give it a favorite over on Ravelry so that it gets a little Ravelry love!!!):  Ravelry: Karen Chemo Cap pattern by A Little Knitty Designs You can purchase the yarn we used here:  Cumulus by Juniper Moon Farm (alittleknitty.com) Here is the video if you need help with the fan stitch!

Chemo Caps - Part 2

The Gia Chemo Cap doesn't have the same sort of story behind it as the Karen Cap , but it was developed with Chemo patients in mind! Please share this pattern with anyone who would like to knit a hat for someone in need! You can download your pattern here: http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/gia-chemo-cap
