Knit the Rainbow Donation

During the month of June, we announced that we would be a drop-off location for Knit the Rainbow and would donate a portion of our sales for June to the charity. Knit the Rainbow  was founded in 2020 to help homeless LGBTQ+ youth in New York City survive the brutal winters. All of our handmade garments are made with love by our volunteers across the country and placed right in the hands of those in need.  We are thrilled to announce that we donated $600 to Knit the Rainbow!!!! Our donation helps with paying for postage to get donated knit wear to where it needs to go!!!

Hilde's Corner - Christmas in July - This time it’s personal!

Let’s take a moment to remember what the holiday season is like when we are trying to knit or crochet for all our loved ones and there is a deadline to meet, and we might be creating something we are not all that fond of creating. We love doing it, and we love our loved ones, but wouldn’t it be nice to take a moment sometime to create something just for ourselves? Something for the pure joy of it, and something we know the receiver will love because that person is us! We know we’re going to love it! July is about as far away from the holidays as we can get - the perfect time to create a bit selfishly. Actually, I hate to think of it that way - it’s not selfish to make things for ourselves. I think it’s a necessity! A bit of self care, perhaps. I mean, we all need hats, mittens, and sweaters, too! So why not a bit of Christmas in July - this time, let’s make it personal! So who’s with me? Who wants to do a bit of selfish creating this July? (Let’s start with coming up with a better term...

Malabrigo Worsted Restock

We have been sensing a trend lately...for wet felting! There has been more and more demand for Malabrigo Worsted, which is their worsted weight 100% wool single ply yarn. This comes in amazing colors, is cost friendly and felts like a DREAM!!!!! Perfect for those felted bags, baskets, slippers and more!!!  We just restocked and added some lovely colors. You can see all of them online or in-store! Here are some fun felting ideas for both knit & crochet! https://ravel.me/3gnhuj

Della Q Oh Snap Restock

We highly recommend a Della Q Oh Snap Sack for all that summer yarn crafting you are going to be doing this year! It's the perfect travel companion (doesn't eat, doesn't talk back, likes to go camping...see...perfect!!) You can find all of these bags in-store or online. We have Ocean and Sunset Snap Sacks in Small and Large as well as the new LYS bags with the cute car full of yarn!! Snap Sacks you can find HERE LYS bags you can find HERE

First pancake

I'm not the greatest cook, plus I'm SUPER impatient and get distracted easily...so my first pancake of every batch is usually a hot mess because I crank up the griddle and hope for the best. But I have found that the first pancake phenomenon can be found in knitting and crochet too (probably because of the same impatient and distracted reasons!!) Sometimes when we make something for the first time, it's a little wonky...like a first pancake. After we understand the pattern and have a little more experience...we improve! The nice thing about yarn, is that you can undo it and try again (you can't exactly uncook a pancake!!!)  If you encounter the first pancake phenomenon...don't sweat it! Just know you are in good company and either lean into it, or rip it out and try again!!!

Hot off the needles

Just finished this awesome knit and had to share! It is called Right Around the Corner and it's actually the 2nd time I have knit it (there is a green and orange version on the wall). It is my FAVORITE no brainer kinda knitting. It's easy to travel with and also makes a great use of 2 skeins of fingering weight yarn that you pick up during your travels!!!  I used 2 colors of https://www.alittleknitty.com/shop/c/p/Square-Peg-Yarns---Sock-x66582335.htm Square Peg Yarns, Sweet Cream Earl Grey (currently out of stock but it will be back) and Mary & Blue!!

Kris' Corner - Summer Projects

Warm temps, graduations, schools letting out, wearing shorts and sunglasses and no fleece!!  Yep! I’m talking about Summer and it has finally arrived.  With a new season comes some new ideas for knitting and crocheting projects.  Here are a few that have caught my eye. Check out this adorable pattern called “ Strawberry Pouch Bag Charm” by Aleksandra Solowianiuk .  These little strawberry drawstring bags knit up quickly and are perfect for holding knitting/crochet tools or a chapstick and keys on a walk.  I’m thinking of attaching one to my project bag.  Cute beads are put on the sides of the strawberries to represent seeds. Since you need such a small amount of yarn, this would be a great stashbuster. This knit project calls for DK yarn and the Ricorumi solids would be a good choice with its variety of colors and small size. Next up is a crocheted blanket called, “Deep Ocean Baby Blanket” by Bori Varga. Normally I wouldn’t work on a blanket during the s...

Katrinkles - Darn Good Stuff

Lately we have been receiving more requests for darning supplies. I am LOVING this trend because I think clothes deserve to keep living even after they have a hole! While I was in Chicago I stopped by a couple booths to get supplies (fun fact: The dress I'm wearing in the photo below has a little visible mending on it because I was too close to a campfire and it spit a little ember onto me and made a hole. I LOVE that dress so there was no way it was going anywhere!!!!)    First stop was the Katrinkles booth! I love catching up with these ladies ANY time I can, and they have the best little darning tool around! My second stop was the Bryson booth! I heard they had these new kits that had just a little bit of darning yarn for fixing all those clothes that need some extra love! There are lots of colors and you will for sure find one that works with anything you are trying to mend! We now have the darning looms and darning y arn for sale in-store and online!! Plus we got a few cu...

Summer Yarn Collecting

Wool and Pine just released a new pattern that I feel is PERFECT for the summer!!!! Meet the Sundial Tee . Not only would this be fun to wear in the warmer months, it is the perfect project for summer travel yarn collecting. You know, you travel a bit during the summer and collect random souvenir yarns at each yarn shop you visit?  On my yarnie travels this summer, I'm going to purchase 100g skeins of fingering weight yarn that kinda go together (I'm thinking greens and purples) then I'm going to knit up this tee and it's a perfect way to show off my Summer 2025 collection!!

In Case of Yarn Emergency....

As our Summer Vacation approaches and the reality of A Little Knitty being closed for a week draws closer...the number one question we are receiving is "What do I do if I have a knitting or crochet emergency???"  We have a plan for that!!!! Step #1. Before June 27th, stop by A Little Knitty and purchase your "In Case of Emergency" Kit Step #2. Carry on as usual while we are closed June 27th to July 4th Step #3. If something goes wrong with the project you are currently working on....rip open your "In Case of Emergency" Kit and work on that project until July 5th. Step #4. Come in on July 5th, tell us how much you missed us and it was hard living 7 days without us, and buy yourself some yarn to celebrate making it through!

New Embroidery Kits

MCreativeJ isn't new to the shop, but we do have NEW KITS that just arrived!!!! We love Melissa and her amazing kits! When I was in Chicago I saw this shoe below and asked if she would be interested in teaching this as a class...how fun would that be??? She also has a book of all the different ways you can embroider on shoes!! Here is a little more information about Melissa Melissa Galbraith is the fiber artist behind MCreativeJ. She was born and raised in the desert of Washington state where her mother instilled a love of making things by hand at an early age. Melissa shares her love of nature through whimsical and modern hand embroidery kits, patterns, workshops, and her books: How to Embroider Texture and Pattern and DIY Embroidered Shoes . Melissa was reintroduced to hand embroidery after finding her desk job monotonous and needing a creative outlet. She loves that embroidery is like coloring with a needle and thread. Melissa found that many craft enthusiasts also wanted to...
