Kris' Corner - Warm Weather Sweaters

With Spring in full gear and Summer just around the corner, I’m excited about spending more time outside in our beautiful Northwest enjoying the long sunny days as well as the beautiful cool evenings. The temperature is just about perfect and with the long hours of sun, we have many visitors during this time of year. Can you blame them!? As I think about BBQing and hiking and exploring our lovely region I’m thinking about knitting, of course, I am! Lightweight sweaters that feel good when there is a cool breeze for an evening outside yet aren’t bulky. Different yarns that breathe and flow with a nice drape. The first one I found is “Seven Sisters Top” by Sloane Lacasse . I love the loose drape of this short sleeve scoop neck top. Perfect to throw over a tank or by itself and wear with shorts or jeans or even over a flowing skirt. I chose to make it in Malabrigo Rios in Aquamarine. I love the beautiful ocean blues. It makes me want to walk on a beach and feel the sand between my toes....

Hilde's Corner - Yarn Shop Hop

My daughter and I went on a wee little “yarn shop hop” this past week. She realized I would be working during our actual yarn crawl but she still wanted to do something like it, so we did our own version during her spring break. (She’s a music teacher). We decided to visit beautiful Whidbey Island and spent a night in a tiny house. We visited Bazaar Girls yarn shop in Port Townsend, and Skein & Tipple on Whidbey island. There was one more yarn shop we hoped to visit, but it was closed for spring break. Skein & Tipple is a combination nightclub/yarn shop and we found out the nightclub was having knit night while we were there! We had so much fun on our little trip. Check out a few of the patterns that inspired me!    Here is a cute little poncho that would be great for warmer weather. There are two versions – a knitted one and a crochet one! It’s called Sea Glass Shoulder Cozy. The knit version is by Elizabeth Finn and the crocheted one by Diane L. Augustin . They’re ...

Free Pattern Alert - Iris

I was in need of a little knitting therapy last week. I wanted something that would take very few braincells (as I had few to spare) would knit up fast and would be super cozy to wear once it was done. The Iris shawl called to me and boy did it deliver on being EXACTLY the project I needed!!! I swear it knit itself! I used Cumulus in Narwhale (the solid dark blue) and one of their "rainbow" yarns called Tropical Sunset . Only 2 balls were needed...which means only 4 ends to weave in when I was all done!!!!  The pattern is called Iris and it is a free pattern on Ravelry that you can find HERE There are so many color combinations that would be amazing...including any of the yarns from their degrade line!! You can view those HERE We are happy to make it into a little knit by including a bag and printed pattern. Just stop in or place an order online and note that you would like to make it into a kit!!

Square Peg Seasonal Set - SUMMER 2023

I feel like a broken record, promising that spring will be here soon....and then promising summer...I JUST WANT SUN!!!!! This Seasonal Set was created with summer berry picking in mind! When the kids were super tiny and we lived up in Bellingham, we did a lot of berry picking and frequently their clothes came out looking a bit like this yarn!! When I needed to explain to Heather what colors I wanted (because I no longer have the berry stained shirts!) I sent this photo of a pie...it has all my favorite berries! I love how she even incorporates the light tan of the pie crust in the yarn too!! For 4 lucky customers, you will receive a mini skein of tan yarn that was inspired by the crust. Perfect for heels & toes of socks!!! Heather did a KILLER job in creating the most beautiful colorway that knits up so beautifully!  The DK we brought in for this set includes nylon...so all the inspiration we will be giving you is ALLLLLLLL about the socks, but you can use the yarn for hats, sh...

Kris' Corner - Bunny Got Back

Spring is finally in bloom, my daffodils are starting to open up and my pink plum tree is full of blossoms. Easter is around the corner and I am loving the days of sunshine (when we get them). Jen has brought in some wonderful yarns to welcome in the season with bright colors and lighter weights for those spring and summer projects. I love seeing the new shades and dreaming about possible new projects. I recently found these cute bunny socks. Don’t you love the colors and the adorable white puff ball on the back for the tail. I like the shortie socks as the weather warms up. The pattern is called, “ Bunny Got Back ” by Amy Gunderson and it's free on Ravelry. These would be fun to make as a gift or for yourself as you usher in the season. The pattern calls for sport weight yarn, but we recommend some DK weight yarn with nylon for this adorable knit!! Happy Easter!
