Hilde's Corner - Spring is here!

As I write this, the beautiful sunny day outside is screaming "spring is here!". Crocuses are blooming, bees are buzzing and the sun is shining. So this Corner is inspired by today's weather. I love this cowl called "Spring Treats Cowl" by Jessica Pelon ($6.50 on Ravelry). Spring treats on a cowl! Too cute. Even if you are not a fan of Peeps, this cowl is just too cute. It's knit up in a worsted weight wool, so Malabrigo Rios would work great, as would Deluxe Worsted or Uptown Worsted . Lots of color choices there. Recently I saw this crochet project that I think is just adorable and so cute for the Easter holiday. Oliver Bunny by Nicole M. Anderson ( ~$6 on Ravelry). So sweet! He's got a little scarf! He's crocheted with a DK weight yarn, so Jody Long Ciao would work nice for this! Or Ricorumi solids ! Or hold 2 strands of fingering weight together to get a fun depth of color! While I was searching for Oliver Bunny, I came across these cute East...

What is the difference between Polyamide and Nylon?

I have been noticing some new yarns that are rolling into the shop list "polyamide" instead of nylon...and that got me pondering.... What is the difference between Polyamide and Nylon???? I knew Polyamide was a man-made product...but didn't realize nylon IS a polyamide A google search led me to  https://www.differencebetween.com/difference-between-nylon-and-polyamide/ The chart I listed above is probably the best way to understand their differences, but if you really want to get into the geeky parts there are break downs of the chemical structure on that website too! But all of this is to say...in a sock yarn they pretty much serve the same purpose!! We have a couple sock yarns in the shop that have PBT as well...so I wanted to touch upon that too! PBT (PolyButylene Terephthalate) is a lycra-like human-made polymer. PBT is a natural UV-ray blocker, and much summer wear and sportswear is now being made from this fiber because it's lightweight, quite stretchy, but not c...

New Inventory - Huasco Coton Kettle Dyes

I have been on the search for a great fingering weight cotton for weaving, crocheting and summer knits for awhile now...and I FINALLY found exactly what I was looking for!!! This gorgeous kettle dyed yarn (and there is one colorway that is undyed!!!) has tonal movement without being too busy. We knit it up into a fun summer shawl, but it would also be great for crochet doilies, crochet baby gowns and woven towels!! I knit up the Summer Sky Shawl as a cute little shawl to wear this summer. I REALLY want to knit up a summer top with this too...it would make an amazing knit or crochet top!   (it is still blocking...but I promise it is super cute!!!) The pattern can be found on Ravelry HERE (it is about $7.50 US for the pattern)

Issue 44 - Spring 2023 - Pom Pom Mag

I really love how inventive and inspiring Pom Pom Magazine is. The latest issue releases today and of course it's just as amazing as ever! You never know what the day will bring with spring, so it’s the perfect season for layering! All of the pieces in this issue play with opacity, texture, and  colourwork, layering techniques, tones, and transparency - sometimes all at once!   Our initial inspiration for this issue came from layering in images such as risographs, shadows, and superimposed photos, which got us thinking about printing and how it works. As a print publication, transferring the words and images we craft so carefully onto paper is part of what we do.  We’ve also invited two equally awe-inspiring people to model our knits for you this season. Angel Joy Flores and Alicia Roth Weigel are both activists who work towards a more equitable world for the LGBTQIA+ community in Texas and beyond. More than ever, representation of trans and intersex people is vital and w...

Juni & Si Trunk Show

We are so excited to have a trunk show with Juni & Si the weekend of March 25th and 26th. This local dyer is new to us, but has been dying yarn for awhile now.  Look at all those AMAZING colors!!! And the speckles are pretty darn amazing! I know I shouldn't have favorite...but far right has my heart! And those tonals!! WOW!!! Be sure to mark your calendars for March 25th & 26th! This is one you won't want to miss!

Hilde's Corner - Malabrigo March

I've been distracted from my other knitting projects while I participate in Malabrigo March on Ravelry with the Malabrigo Junkies Group ! It's not too late to join in the fun - it runs all month and finishing is not a requirement. It's all about casting on! For this KAL, I am knitting Hygge Cowl by Kristen TenDyke i n Malabrigo Silky Merino and I am loving this pattern! It's a simple lace pattern and it seems to fly off the needles. Slight shaping is done by changing needle sizes. I can't wait to wear it. The pattern is $5.99 on Ravelry. Of course, you can use any yarn in DK. I think it would look great in Jody Long's Ciao . I am also knitting Comfrey cowl by Sara Gresbach ($4 on Ravelry) and using Malabrigo Mecha . Another quick knit in bulkier yarn and a simple lace pattern. It would be so cozy in Juniper Moon's Beatrix ! That yarn is so soft. I have another cowl knit up in that and I swear it's like wearing a kitten around your neck! I can't tak...

Kris' Corner - The Volcano Has Erupted!

I got your attention with that title, didn’t I!? Well, my son gave me an A Little Knitty gift certificate for the “Knitting The National Parks” book for Christmas and I finally pulled the trigger and bought this beautiful book. There are so many colorful patterns of so many great National Parks. Where do I begin? I started thinking about my brother, who is an outdoor enthusiast and has visited many of these parks. He loves wearing hats on hikes, when he camps, and especially when he goes caving. He would love one but which one? I knew immediately when I turned to page 190…. the “Hawaii Volcanoes National Park”. It is perfect!!! My brother loves volcanoes and recently went to Hawaii and saw this volcano oozing beautiful yellow, red and gold lava. How could he not like this stunner. So out came the needles and I began to search for the perfect yarns to match the colors in the photos. I know a lot of you have purchased this awesome book but maybe the patterns and all of the color schemes ...
