Jen goes to a Furry Convention

Never in my wildest dreams would I have thought I would say these words... but this last weekend I attended a Furry Convention in Portland, Oregon.  My youngest had heard about the furry community awhile ago and begged to go to a convention. MY only knowledge of this community was an episode of CSI many years ago (and from talking to friends, this too was their only exposure to the community). The episode did not shine a great light on things and to say that I went into all of this with a HUGE amount of apprehension an understatement!!!!  There are a lot of things that my kid is into that I just don't "get" sometimes (slime and unboxing videos to name a few)...but it's not really for me to get. Plus, I'm POSITIVE there were things that I was into as a teen that my parents just didn't understand (there is a reason there is a song called " Parents just don't understand ") So I did a little research, chatted with adults that I knew who were in the f...

Welcome Trinity to the family!

Last year we introduced Unity Worsted and Harmony DK from Yarn Citizen and everyone has LOVED it!!!! We are very excited to introduce Trinity.... Trinity is a luxurious blend of Super Baby Alpaca, Mulberry Silk, and Cashmere, perfect for using alone or held double with our Harmony and Unity bases for a soft fuzzy halo. Trinity Cashmere is sourced from a fair trade mill in Peru and priced consciously too! I designed a cowl JUST for this yarn!!! You can find this pattern for $4.00 on Ravelry ! And I found over 200 projects on Ravelry that use this yarn...you can find them HERE You can find all 18 colors of this yarn in-store or online HERE

Echoes is back, and she brought her big brother!

Echoes Fingering has been a super popular yarn in the shop, and for awhile I thought I was unable to get it anymore...but turns out I was barking up the wrong tree!! When I was at H&H I not only discovered Echoes Fingering is still alive and well...but she also has a big brother!! Echoes Worsted Of course I had to steal a skein as SOON as it was out of the box and knit it up into a hat!!   This is the My Baker's Hat on Ravelry . It's a free pattern and you only need 1 skein of Echoes Worsted! It is a fairly fitted hat, so you may want to add extra stitches if you have a larger noggin or have lots of hair!! You can find both of these gorgeous yarns in-store or online HERE

Putzing around chicago

My flight home from Chicago was delayed by 4 hours...so that meant I had a whole morning to do whatever I wanted. In the past I visited downtown Chicago and while I LOVED that little adventure...I wanted something a little more laid back! I slept in a bit then got an Uber to take me to a yarn shop (yes, I didn't have enough yarn in my system at this point). The yarn shop sounded cute, was in a neighborhood (Logan Square area) AND Sea Change Fibers was having a trunk show there...it sounded like the perfect morning!  First, I stopped by Firefly Fiber Arts Yarn Shop . It was a sweet little shop with really nice staff and it was fun to watch someone learn to spin (shhhhhh...don't tell them I was totally paying attention!!!) I adopted these beauties then decided to walk around town a bit. I ended up in a little bakery that had the perfect perch for sipping my Vietnamese coffee, knitting and people watching. Totally living my best life and loving every minute of it (the yarn is an ...

Kris' Corner - Koigu is a new welcome addition

Some new yarn has recently arrived in the shop and I am super excited about it and decided to highlight it in my article this week.  It is a Canadian yarn called Koigu, a beautiful self-striping sock yarn.  The colors really got my attention but also the creative cute packaging. We are carrying two different sets and they are both adorable. The first one is packaged in a fun mini crate with a burlap bow that holds two mini skeins, each identical to the other, so you can knit 2 perfectly matching striped socks.  Of course this would make a sweet gift but why not a gift for you!  I bought one for myself because it made me want to start knitting a pair of socks and see the colors play out.  The second set is 5, 25g, mini self-striping skeins, packaged in a cute little paint can .  This set makes me dream of not only making socks but also a cowl or a shawl that will show off the beautiful gradation of colors from one mini skein to the next.  Both of these ...

Hilde's Corner

Warm weather is here!! Time for warm weather knitting! I’ve been doing some searching for tee patterns. Here’s what I’ve come up with: In the shop we have this pretty fingering cotton yarn, Huasco Coton Kettle Dyes and have found this pattern that would work nice with this yarn - Stromboli by Caitlin Hunter (selling on Ravelry for $9) seems nice and airy with all the pretty lace on it. I really love this tank made with linen yarn - Notched Hem Tank Top by Purl Soho and it’s free on Ravelry! It calls for a fingering weight linen, but I see that many projects have used Juniper Moon Zooey with success, even though this is considered a DK weight yarn. Because this tank has a simple pattern, I think the other linen yarn the shop carries, Summer Solstice Paints , would be a really fun one to try on this pattern! It is still not a fingering weight yarn, but a sport weight. Using either of these yarns, one would have to experiment with and work up a few gauge swatches to double check all is...

My adventure to H&H Part 2

They have so many cute photo opportunities...of course that makes sense given our community!! I met new vendors and even booked a couple trunk shows!!! Road Trip Yarns has a really cool line of cat inspired yarns and they will be traveling our way in October!! I also got to hang out with my local friends...yes...we traveled to Chicago to hang out together! But we rarely get this much time to hang out together so it was REALLY nice! My hotel was kind enough to install this knitting light for me. Or maybe everyone gets one...and maybe they are called reading lights....whatever! :) One really interesting class I attended was one about trends. It's kinda nice when things that _I_ think are trending...are trending for reals! Brown is IN this year...and I have been screaming this for a couple years! ;) I'm a girl ahead of her time! I got VERY excited when the presenter said Emotional Support Chickens are trending! I have 25 chickens that would totally agree!

My adventure to H&H - Part 1

A couple days after the yarn crawl, I hopped on a plane to Chicago for our annual industry tradeshow called H&H Americas. It is open to everyone who makes a living in crafting, including retailers (me!), wholesalers, influencers, designers, educators, content creators, small business owners and ecommerce businesses. It is yarn AND fabric...which was used in this wall hanging below. On the left side of the photo is yarn creations, and on the right side is fabric. There are big events, big conversations (fresh out the gate it was about tariffs and Joann's!!) as well as classes, smaller talks/discussions, networking and EVERY player in the yarn shop world! We patiently waited for the doors to open to the marketplace the first day. This is where we can chat with the companies, learn about what is new or changing. It's so fun and SO overwhelming. I think I was a zombie the first day (I forgot to drink coffee!!!!) I got to meet people I have only worked with over email And I too...

New Inventory from Malabrigo!!!

I haven't ordered them yet...but there are new lines and colors from Malabrigo and I REALLY need them in my life!!! This is a new color line of Caracoal...I forgot to snap a photo of it all knit up, but it's really cool! There are also new colors of Malabrigo And a brand new base that is SOOOO new it's not even on their website yet, but as soon as it is...I'll share all about it (it's chunky!!)
